Have you tried any of the back to black type products? Macquiers, mothers, etc.

Yes, they don't do much since the surface of the trim is just too sun beaten.

I would probably just tape it off and paint it. Not that it is that difficult to take off the rear bumper to paint it by itself but you will get just as good results if you tape it well.
Maybe others can chime in as to what paint they've used but maybe VHT Epoxy black paint found at some automotive stores.

I don't think it was black when it was new... I think it was a rather dark grey if i remember right.
Baby Oil was a trick my detailers at my old dealership told me about and it seems to work okay for a while.

Do you by any chance happen to have the measurement of the crossmember on the rear of the frame since you cut up your rear bumper cover? and some pictures of the bumper cover off?

No written-down measurements but it might be easy for me to take some since my hitch is removed if you need anything specific? No pictures either, I really should take more while doing my mods like when I took off my front bumper for my body lift.

Particularly I am looking for the Width, Height, and Length of the cross member. Length isn't super important, but would be nice to have. Mainly the cross-sectional width and height.
Been toying around with making a bolt-on swing-out for the spare tire since I just can't find a nice, affordable rear metal bumper I like and when I do my first tire rotation on my new 35's in a couple thousand I don't want to stuff a dirty wheel/tire in the cargo area (it's also eating up a ton of space).

This is a top (or bottom) view of the frame I drew. The back side has large radius bends which was hard to measure but you get the point. If you need any more let me know.

Bringing this back real quick (spent the last couple hours searching for this! Lol)
Those measurements are in Inches correct? I took my rear bumper skin off a couple weeks ago and made rough measurements in millimeters. As you mentioned the angled portions were a bit tricky to pin down because of the wide radius of the bend not providing a clear "peak" to start from.
I wish I had a better drawing/detail of that section... maybe the body repair manual might have that information? The measurements seem a bit different than what I got.
For example the frame height I got was 110mm (roughly with my caliper) which comes closer to 4.33"

from 06-09 that pas was not replaceable, it is part of the bumper. when the bumper is painted it has to be masked off.
go to home depot and get a bottle of "wipe New", its with the household chemicals. trust me it works! I used it on my faded shutters on the house and the color came back.
don't get it on the paint. no re-spraying, no build up of paint. no overspray.

I just went out and measured again and you are correct. It is more like 4.3". I didn't see the weld seam when I measured from the underneath/backside.

I may do that if I can't set time aside to build one (the issue is that spending $300+ dollars on one is a bit pricey at the moment). Mainly I have rough measurements of the rear frame, I just want to make sure they are somewhat accurate as I don't have the time/luxury to keep removing the bumper skin to take measurements and test fit things while designing/building a swing out (I also don't want to drive around looking janky without a bumper skin for too long)
Just wanted to make sure as I wasn't sure if I measured that right.
