Black Magic Build Thread

Well I never had a "build thread" for my first 3rd gen, so I figured I should start one for my new one! I just picked up a 2000 with 102K miles on it over the holiday weekend. No rust on the whole vehicle. I'm really excited to start fresh with another one. I learned a lot from what I did with my '96 and I'm hoping this one will be better. Overall it will be a similar build, mainly going to be my wheeling rig/snow commuter. Going to try my best to keep the miles off of her and on my '91 corolla that only has 90K miles. I'm going to swap a lot of parts from the old one to the new one, and vise versa. Haven't decided what to do with the old one. Considering putting it back to stock and trying to sell it, or putting a tarp over it and maybe when the funds are available doing a SAS.

Here is the old one in her prime:

And here is the new one...

Bought 11/21/12 with 102K miles from Mercedes Benz of Oklahoma City

A little progress today. Removed the running boards and the pin strips down the side. Running boards are for sale if anyone is interested.

Another update. 12/2/12 Nothing major, installed some new LED tail lights and swapped the rear spoiler. The one on the '96 was in much better shape (I'll paint it someday). Also removed the Bud Built and Lil' Skip skid plates from the old one. As well as the Lotus RCAMS.

I really like the TJM-15 bumper. Especially on your rig, they're just so hard to find!
Congrats on the new addition!

Sweet! Looking forward to seeing where you take both of them.... SAS, SAS, SAS! BOTH =) That is what the Corolla is for, daily commuting.

Nice!! .... you better keep that TJM bumper! I love that thing

Congrats on the new addition!
Thanks guys! I already sold it. Pretty sure I gave fonerunner a really good deal on the TJM. It was sad to see it go.

what did I miss? Why is the old one being retired? I loved that truck...I built my truck based on it
Well I had the old one since 2005. Put over 100K miles on it myself and I think its time for a change. I wheeled it hard and its seen better days for sure. It would make a great start for a buggy though. I really wanted to get another one with low miles and no rust before they become really hard to find. Plus it will be fun to start over again. I want to look at it and be able to say, "Dang that thing is really clean" Like I can with a lot of others here on the forum.

Well, at least it went to a good and respectful member of the forum. I'd love to get my hands on one of those. I was looking for one for a long time before I picked up the ODL.
Looking forward to the new build though!

I'm in the same boat. I'll probably end up getting the ODL as well.

I echo everyone else's statements regarding your old rig. I love that thing! I watch yours and Glen's MOAB videos all the time when I'm bored and always love to see your rig crawling around the rocks.

I'm very excited for this new build though. Also because I have been having the same train of thought lately - finding another 3rd gen, MINT, low miles, swapping old parts over, and using it strictly for wheeling. Def subscribed.
