Squealing brakes

About 3500 miles ago I had a 4 wheel brake job...pads and rotors. Almost immediately after the work, the left front brake started to squeal loudly when I first backed out of the driveway. After the first couple of stops, the squeal stops. Its only coming from the one wheel.

I went back to the shop that did the work. They checked the brakes and said that there wasn't anything wrong, blaming it on moisture build-up overnight.

I've had a lot of brakes replaced on my vehicles over the years and never got a squeal with new brakes...only on old brakes when they got low.

I'm going to go back to the shop again, tying my truck up for another day.

I'd appreciate any advice. How the shop may have screwed-up, what I might suggest thy look for etc.

If they didn't bed the new pads and rotors in correctly, they will squeal.

I had that happen once before with my '98 Tahoe. They didn't squeal, the truck just didn't stop! The front brakes were done a few months after the rear. The squeal is only in the left front. Could they have left a part out? (I've never done disc brakes on a "cager" before.)

Brakes shouldn't squeal.

Can you look thru your wheels and see the actual brake pads in the calipers? Look for any obvious signs, like the pads were put in backwards or something like that. Take a look at the surface of the rotors too. If you see a deep gouge or multiple grooves (like on a record), something is wrong. People make mistakes and sometimes they try very hard not to admit them.

It may be time to find a new shop to work on your cars.

Aftermarket or OEM pads and rotors? OEM There are two shims per pad that must be replaced. A small amount of brake lube is used on the pad to shim surface. There is one spring that sits on the lower caliper pin that can be missing or installed incorrectly but that shouldn’t cause a squeal.

I had a similar issue after getting new brakes from a dealership- They still haven't diagnosed the squeaking...

The squeaking is probably coming from the economy pads that they used and there's nothing to diagnose. I'm sure the brakes are installed correctly and are safe.

Dealerships don't install factory brake pads.
