blacked out headlights project supplies

I know krylon fusion seems to be the most popular choice of spray paint for this project, but all I could find at Home Depot that looked appropriate was "Rust-Oleum Specialty Plastic" for like 5 bucks. I haven't used it yet but just wanted to be sure before I attempt the blackout headlights project, that this particular spray paint would be just fine. Anybody tried this paint before? I was going to use the Easy-Off Heavy Duty oven cleaner to get rid of the chrome, and clean it with liquid dish washing soap before I paint it to help assure a good bond with the plastic.

Also, instead of using an oven... what about a heat gun and target the sealant all the way around until it's melted enough to start prying open?

Yea I think its a 10, but that real easy to figure out anyways. I don't know if a heat gun will work but good luck to you.

I've done three sets off headlights using an oven and it has worked perfect every time. Preheat to 400 degrees F, turn off heat, place one headlight in(make sure you take out all screws and removable pieces while its preheating), leave in for approx. 10 mins., take out the headlight and pry apart(use a flat head screwdriver if necessary).

I'm sure that paint will do just fine, good luck to you.

yes, 10mm seems to be the right size.

but for the PITA 4th bolt, does it have to be a deep socket, or can you just use an 3" extension?

Sorry but I don't remember. An extension should be fine.

preheat the oven at 270 and cook the headlights at the same temp at 10 mins, its easy to take apart.

and when putting it back together, is 250 at like 5 mins enough to get it to seal properly?
