blacked out headlights

So I blacked out my headlights last night and decided to try something. The cover that goes over the turn signal I painted with VHF nightshades. I also painted the side marker with nightshades. And I don't like it. My question is has anyone left that whole clear platic piece off? What purpose does it serve. I was thinking I could take that out and have the amber bulbs exposed and just paint the chrome bowl black. Then everything will be black except the high beam bulb. This is an 06. Anyone have any pics of this? Otherwise I need to find a replacement set to replace that clear plastic. Thx

I wouldn't leave your bulbs exposed but if you really want to get rid of the nightshades but don't want to buy new lenses get some acetone and start scrubbing... it takes some serious elbow grease but it will come off (i know this from my previous car), and if you did it right and sanded them first, i would recommend some clear coat to put on once you're done to get rid of the scratches.
