I attended a NASCAR event a few weeks back and there was booth promoting this...I didn't stick around for the whole sales presentation. It's supposed to reduce emissions AND improve your gas mileage.

One guy in the audience likened it to a second catalytic converter, another worried it would void a warranty, another thought it would increase the backpressure too much....these concerns were all discounted of course.

I know enough about cars to be dangerous, I'm skeptical especially at $149.00 - but what do you guys think???

I agree! Don't believe for a minute that somehow this company came up with an add-on gas saving device that the highly paid engineers at Toyota or any other manufacturer could not.

Not necessarily true, the data might not be complete enough to warrant car companies to incur extra costs.

Still I think its interesting... although I fail to see how it improves mileage. I'm not buying it though.

I don't know whether this would work on a T4R.

I do know that Yamaha (EXUP) and others employ this technology as a method to tune the exhaust to a very wide range of RPM. Thiers is a little more sophisticated but the concept is similar...

If the T4R had a short stroke, high rpm engine where it was desired to cruise at a low rpm this device might help. Another scenario where this might make an appreciable difference is with a long duration cam, no VVTi and with a free flowing, aftermarket exhaust. I don't think it would make that much difference on near stock 4Runners. The T4R engines are in such a mild state of tune and managed so thoroughly by the ECM that this device is probably a waste of money.

If you had several engine mods that cumulatively took away from the low rpm torque this device might restore some of it and help with mpg in that case.

Edit: The blade is a joke. :FOS::bash:I just read vs skimmed the site. There's no variable flow mechanism at all. JCWhipmee has one that I might buy, it has a spring loaded butterfly valve. This thing is just putting a cork in the pipe. Exhaust manifold and valve temps would go through the roof if you were towing with this thing on...

Looks like an "Exhaust Filter" The only claim that might be true is lessened carbon emissions, but that is ONLY due to the accumulation in the filter.

The only mileage and power gains would be the result of your wallet being slightly lighter.

I'm not an engineer or really understand what the "concept" of this device is, but wouldn't it just restrict the airflow...which is the opposite of high capacity air filters, headers & exhaust systems?

Normally I am 100% on board with the forward thinking, intellectually superior, super-wise Hollywood entertainer types. Their wisdom, insight, rational thought process and overall intellect makes me wish that Hollywood was the capitol of this great nation.
