Blast From the Past!

Hello Fellow Members,

It’s been a while since I have posted and I missed you guys (And gals)! Especially you Thai! lol

I still have my 05 but almost lost it due to an accident my wife had a week ago. She wasn’t hurt but the 4Runner took a good hit. She was traveling on a highway when a young kid in a spankin new Camaro lost control (Said he hydroplaned) behind her and while spinning behind her clipped her Superbumper. This caused her to spin and plow the guardrail (front of vehicle). Thank God it wasn’t totaled (Only $10K so far).

If it wasn’t for the Superbumper the truck would probably have been totaled. I need the truck to tow my new camper/trailer (Coming soon). If I would have lost the truck I would have had to get a new GX (Need the V8’s tow rating) because the new 4Runner only has a 5K lbs. tow rating and no air susp.

Anyway, the Superbumper! It is an impact absorbing hitch step. A couple years ago, the little woman had a tree surprise her while backing up (Yah, even with the backup camera). She bent the $250 hitch step, which now was trash. While researching for a new step I found the Superbumper. It can absorb a 20mph impact without damage and has a LIFETIME guarantee to be replaced for FREE if it gets damaged in any rear impact. It also costs the same as a regular hitch step. The Superbumper worked as advertized and prevented any real damage to the rear of the truck. It only bent a little and amazingly never hit the bumper. The Camaro’s whole right side was torn up by the Superbumper. Needless to say but anyone who has a hitch should get one.

SUPERBUMPER Hitch Step - Stops Rear End Collision Damage.

I’ll stop back next week and try and catch up.

Welcome Back Mister Koz!!

That sucks, very sad that the 4Runner got into an accident.

Hope everything is well and no one is hurt.

No one got hurt, thank God. The 4Runner is an amazing vehicle as far as protecting its passengers.

Good to see you back bro!

My only worry about getting a new designed car was the plastic bumpers. Yeah I get that a 5,000 lbd SUV into the back of some light compact there is going to be an obvious looser in that fight. But still....I'll take metal any day!

Koz,

Great time to get a Schrockworks Bumper.

I'd love to get a real bumper but the truck is primarily used for towing and I'm looking reduce weight. I'll probably get a good bull bar. Any recommendations? It needs to be stainless. I will replace the Superbumper.

Glad to see you back, but I wish it was in a happier thread. Sorry to see what happened to your truck.

What are the chances the superbumper actually yielded far greater damage to your truck? Was the wife swiped across the back bumper or was it T-boned from the side?

I'm glad everyone was ok, but I certainly do not know if a recommendation is warranted.

The car hit her right on the superbumper and rear of the vehicle had hardly any damage. The superbumper absorbed the impact and only bent. If she didn't hit the guardrail there would have been a couple hundred dollars damage.

Hey Koz,

Glad your wife is alright man, but I couldn't help notice you're from Jersey as well. I'm in the Rutgers New Brunswick area. I have a question about the brush guard in the picture. It looks like you have some sort of step in the front attached to the guard, was that included in the brush guard or did you add that yourself?

Thanks,
Ryan

I'm glad nobody was hurt in the accident . The truck can always be fixed or replaced .

Thats pretty cool, where did you get it if you dont mind me asking?

I bought it on eBay in 06 (made in China) it was about $470. I do not remeber the name. I also replaced all the hardware with stainless ($50).
