Went out wheeling last Saturday with 3 groups of over 20 rigs from stock to well built and SAS'ed rigs. All very nice rigs to say the least!

Awesome to finally meet you! Hopefully will see you out a bit this summer too! I finally am seeing some cash, so lots of fun for my truck soon!

Yup! But with two swings of the sledgehammer, it was back into shape. I'll do something to beef it up, though.

Thanks, that sure was. There'll be more runs to be organized i'm sure, now that our local Toyota group have amassed to well over 2200 members......be nice to go and wheel with you some time.

Upon removal of the stock gas tank skid, I found out that the actual gas tank took a much more substantial damage than I imagined. I inspected it for potential issues and although it sustained some sharp bends and deformation, it wasn't enough to warrant any kind of repair or fix..:naughty:lucky! I guess it's now more than ever to make a real skid plate that could protect and take some real beating next time around.


I started out with a 2'x4'x3/16" sheet and went to town. I couldn't justify spending $80 for it at first, but in the grand scheme of things, it was a small price to pay.




Maximixed clearance for driveshaft and pinion flange....:naughty:well have to see!




It finished off weighing 39.4 lbs after completion compared to 13.6 lbs with the stock skid.

I need to go to harbor freight and get some cutoff wheels, ive got this 4x4 sheet of 3/16" a36 sitting in my garage. and the plasma cutter we have at the lab is a joke haha.

orginally it was an 8x4 sheet and i paid about $190. plus they cut it in half so i could fit it in the truck, the truck rode really nice with the extra weight, cant wait till im done with the rear bumper.

This is the unit I had been using for some time now. It's a dual voltage unit, but I have it hooked up to 220v I wired in the shop specifically for it. Now cutting became a lot faster and more efficient. Also rewired the 15amp circuits to 20amps to maximize the settings on my Hobart Handler 140.

In total, I used 1 Walter cutting disc for the gas tank skid, the rest was plasma cut.:reddance:

at the lab we have one of these too, we put a disc on there thats good for up to stainless steel, it makes the edges perfect on the steel, so after you cut it, you just finish the edge on there and its nice and square and flat.

414459 HVBS-7MW, 7 in. x 12 in. 3/4 HP 1-Phase Horizontal/Vertical Band Saw

which is awesome for cutting tubes and smaller pieces of plate, the hydraulic assist means you just sit there and wait till it cuts, plus it works as an upright bandsaw.

the plasma cutter we have is basically good for 1/8" or less, but ive gotten pretty good with it, i can cut bevels on thicker pieces and prep for joints that are to be welded.

To drop a couple names, Anthony Pham and Andrew Sutherland will be heading to Harrison on sunday and I'll be joining them. You should come along as well. I may even be interested in going somewhere Saturday as well. A final Eagle run would be sweet.

Awesome gas tank skid. My stock skid is dented in the exact same spot, just not quite as deep as yours. I love how fast you got that skid fabbed up. I assume you'll have one ready for me for this weekend :laugh:

Jet does make some pretty good tools. Got one of their pneumatic 1/2" belt sanders for tight spaces and it's awesome..It's nice that you have access to these machines when you have need for them, though.

We just came from Whipsaw last weekend and the Indian Arm run before that. I'm not sure yet what the final plan is for this weekend as my brother and my sister-in-law will be flyin' in from Oakland and i'll be picking them up in Bellingham this Friday. They'll be here to stay til Sunday to visit our parents. Wheeling might not be in the itinerary as it's atleast a one day trip.

I will have gladly join you no problem. Can we make it on the first weekend of May, instead?

I wasn't gonna take risks wheeling without the proper armour under there so I made one before the weekend Whipsaw trip. Nice try!:bluejump:

We didn't get very far, the snow started slowin' us down at kilometer 15, the trip ended up being a recovery festival every 10 minutes it became very tedious. Nobody had any energy left to capture or video any shots. After kilometer 25, there was just no reason of going any further...it's stupid futile!

This was our 4th year going there but the first time in the snow. Never again will I go back there this early...lesson learned.:bash:

Yeah that's too bad we can't wheel before you go back to the island..it's just bad timing for me, but do enjoy your last trip out with the guys. Rest assured, we'll get to wheel together sometime.
