Blcktpgsr's '97 transformation

[MENTION=46329]blcktpgsr[/MENTION] I've been looking into the mods you've done to your ARB. Do you think it would be possible to move the bumper 2" inboard and relocate the shackle mounts without moving the winch or cutting into the top of the bumper?

I'd like to increase the clearance of the bumper with as little modification as possible.

Thanks, Rob! Obviously I have been slackin' off, myself. It's been a while since i've updated the thread. Thanks though for checking out the recent updates on the rig.

Better late than never, I guess. But thanks a lot for your kind and sentimental remarks. Sure is nice for the rig to be thought of as one of the originals..

Hey Brandon..From experience, everything you mentioned is possible apart from the relocation of the shackle mounts. To clarify my point, the shackle mounts are originally part of the main structure of the bumper as we all know. The reason I got away doing what I did relocating it, was because I had a place where I could actually weld and fortify them solid and secure..and that's the platform/cradle and the walls of the new winch mount. That's how mine was done..On the other hand check out how I did my brothers bumper on the link below.

I can't see any other location where you could place them and keep the winch's orientation the way it is. Other than that small issue, you're good to go.

Thanks for the info! I haven't got under there and looked at clearances, as its hard to see up there with the winch and splash plate in the way. I was thinking I would integrate the shackle mounts into the longitudinal (in relation to the vehicle) plates that the mounting brackets attach to. I don't know if this is possible though. My other thought was to simply make shackle mounts that bolt onto the frame rails underneath the ARB mounting brackets. It seems a little bit half-ass but could save me a lot of complication. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work, and in terms of clearance, I think I could tuck them up enough to never hit anything. The only downside I can see is having to crawl under there when submerged in mud. That being said, I haven't used my front shackle mounts even once since installing the winch.

NO problem.....Yeah, until you get a really good visual inspection of any possible mounting locations, it's all speculations at this point in time.

The factory location of our tow hook as you suggested could be your best bet. One of those low profile shackle mounts should suffice. Just leave the d-rings off until you have use for them, that way they don't drag or hook onto something when you're on the trail.....also, just don't play too much in mud!:becky:

Sorry for the noob question, but are you using your spacers with the Level 8's? Also, the backspacing is 4.5, right? I'm looking into buying wheels for my 4R and I love the fitment your wheels/tires are.

Especially amazing build btw. Going to be taking a lot of pointers from you. Thanks for always being so thorough!

No worries, i'm just glad to help in any way. Yes, from the moment i put those wheels on, the 1.25" spacers also got installed and i never looked back.

Oh yah, you're right the wheels have a 4.5" backspace.

Thanks for a response. Always nice to meet someone kind in the "vehicle scene". I've had a Honda for a while, and it's full of brats and scammers. Joining the Toyota side was the right idea!

Your runner has and is inspiring me to do a lot to mine.. Slowly but surely getting more and more done to it. If only the gas mileage got better with the looks [emoji28]

I check your site on a regular basis to see what's new and wait with anticipation to see your newest mod... really like the gas tank skid!
Had a look at your recent videos, all I can say is wow! The Indian Arm looked really great, its always awesome, I imagine, with a real mix of rigs! If I still lived in the Lower Mainland I might be tempted to get involved!
A few years ago I didn't have the tools or the time or money to do things to my vehicle, plus I didn't really have the space. Now that the kids are out of school, I have tools and a little more time. I also have a reasonable garage to work all year round (as I live in the Okanagan, this is important, as we have a real Winter here!!), the problem is, I still don't have much money with College aged kids and whenever I think its time to do something to the truck, I end up fixing a kids car instead!! All 3 of my kids have cars, and so far this year, I've done 3 timing belt jobs, bumper to bumper rust restoral on my sons' Eclipse, and I'm working on a rear suspension swap for the Eclipse as well... at least I was able to fit my Tundra brake upgrade in there!! With 5 vehicles out front, my place looks more like a used car lot!

Do you have much space to work? I noticed most of your work pics are taken in a carport or on a patio... maybe I'm just spoiled with the double car garage! Sorry, I'm still amazed with all the mods you've done and all the amazing fab jobs!
 
Thanks for your continued support, gang. I realize how late and well behind i am in updating this thread....but fret not, the upcoming updates sure won't disappoint.
