bleach bath emblems

Has anyone had any experience bleach bathing their emblems to remove the chrome for preparation to paint? i am planning to black out my emblems and im not sure how to prepare them yet. I have seen it done on mazda forms but i cant seem to find a 4runner one, is there a reason for that?

Is that safe on plastic?

Sand, prime, paint. Mine have lasted for 2 years now and still look new.

I tried a bleach bath on my chrome grill. It sat for 24 hours and removed about 1%. Disappointing, but pleasing to know that toyota plastic chroming is top quality.

Just use plasti-dip!
Super easy, cheap, holds up well, and removable if you change your mind.

plasti dip doesnt work well in the harsh winers for me at least up here in Canada

Thats good to know, I never knew it had problems at low temps.
Have you looked into getting a set of the factory black emblems, might be easier than trying to paint the chrome. Hope the paint/removing the chrome works out, I know nothing about bleach bathing so all I can do wish you good luck.
