Blend Air Door

I am still a new 4Runner owner, having only owned the vehicle almost 2 weeks. I purchased the vehicle with the understanding the heat was working, and when it was not working up to par I took it in. The previous owner graciously offered to cover the cost of the new "blend door" actuator motor. The guy I took it to quoted me a price of about $500 parts and labor. He then told me it was an expensive part from the dealer costing about $370. I let the previous owner know about the cost, and what he could expect for a bill. The previous owner then returned telling me he had found the "same" part on the internet for about $135. I then called the mechanic back and asked for the part number, and he told me that he only had the part number of the incorrect part that was sent to him today, but he could give it to me because the parts would cost the same. He said something about their being multiple "blend door actuator motors" and toyota mistakenly sent the wrong one. I did google the part number he gave me and verified that I could get the part for about $150. Does this sound strange to you guys, or am I missing something? The part number he gave me was 87106-35060. I am really hoping this isn't going to reveal that this guy is overcharging this badly because I have been using him for a few years now. He has seemed very trust worthy the entire time.

Just to let you know its a 99' Limited 2wd 3.4L

$370 for that part is twice what a dealer would charge for it. If that is indeed the case, then that's a rip-off. You don't need me to tell you that.

I am having the same trouble. Dealer wants $316.97 plus tax.
I can am unsure of them sending the right part. Can't find it on ebay for a safe return. Here is part of a conversation that maybe helpful.

The rear does not get hot. I've moved the temp setting and the vent air temp does not change. Not hot or cold. I can hear the AC compressor cycle on when putting to AC, but no cold air. Have you heard of a blend door actuator? Utubes point in that direction, that it is not moving the door. Saw a mechanic today, he said to get the blend door actuator for Cold/Heat but see if you can return it if it's not the problem. He also thought it could be the control panel. He gave me a bid of $150 - $350 for labor as it was electrical. Utube makes it out as straight forward to locate. Trial and error on replacing part or check the ohm's to confirm 1st. That is getting over my head. If I touch the hoses under the hood one must be cold?

the rear heater does not have a blender motor, so the OP's part is not the one you need.


is the rear heater fan blowing? the rear heater is not linked to the a/c controls. the rear heater control is at the back of the console box. if you have adjusted the rear heater control and the rear heater fan blowing and there's no temp change, try looking under the body and check if there are two rubber hoses. the previous owner could have disconnected the hoses.

I was wondering the same thing after reading it.

The rear heater has it's own controls behind the center console and has heat only, no cold air. There is no blender door I'm aware of for newer models with the electronic climate control. Mine is a slide knob only in the back.

The only one with the electronic climate control I've owned didn't have rear heat at all, so I can't confirm 100% that the rear heater in newer models is controlled from the rear.
