ok... i would like to know if there are any writeups on removing car speakers from the doors? (tweeters are fine)

and is the stock size of the speakers? so i can buy new ones....


but the only good thing is that the sub is still under warrenty....


but over all it still sucks, hearing a scratching sound then no base... and then smelling smoke, yeah sucks!

What caused your speakers to stop working? Clipping?

The fronts are 6.5", but the rears are like some weird size, but you can make bigger speakers work back there.

There are writeups on this forum or on yotatech. I've seen them, but just can't recall where they are. I would just do a search in the 3rd Gen forum for "removing speakers".

Those speakers are ok I suppose, but they look way over priced. I would personally never buy anything from Best Buy. If you get another component set, which you should, you should replace your tweeters also. I know they arn't blown, but if you leave the current ones in there you may not get a good sound. I would personally look around some more and find some better speakers. You don't have to amp aftermarket component speakers, but I would say if their RMS is over 60w they should probably be amped.

heres my 2cents. I would run some audiobahn or rockford fosgate or jl audio components to a small (300 or 400) watt amp. You can get all of it off amazon or another website relatively cheap and they have amazing sound. Ive got audiobahns in mine and absolutely love them.

I would run PG RSD's. They are about $90 and can handle over 100 rms. I would get a two channel amp and put about 90 on each.

well i already have an amp hooked up to a sub, and a 55 watt amp built into my headunit, so i dont think i need anopther amp for my speakers, i jsut want somehting to replace my stocks that a blown...... im not looking for a prestine sound and spending 300 bucks.....

I would highly recommend Infinity Kappa's - right around that price range and surprisingly good audio quality. A little bright on the tweeters, but nothing that can't be fixed through the EQ.

Dollar per dollar, I think you'll be very happy - you can get them at Crutchfield.com or Bestbuy, I believe. And they'll almost certainly be better than the Pioneers you were looking at.

Just an FYI, you don't have to amp them. They will do fine off the HU.

Any replacement speaker you buy will more than likely have a RMS over 50, so this means that to reach their full potential they need to have that going to them, but they don't have to if your not concerned with optimal output.

I'm just curious, what kind of sub or subs do you have and what amp is on them?

You may want to consider running some 300 Hz bass blockers on the rear speaker replacements since you have a sub and small speakers can't do anything great with low freqs. This should help extend the life of them. How many channels can your amp run?

Try ebay first since I picked up a full set of brand new Kicker components for the front and rear and didn't spend over $160,the same at Circuit City would've been almost $360.

This is the best advice in this thread.... If you have your highs and mids properly xrossed over (ie: no bass) they will last and sound just as good as anything else. Most of that depends on your HU, settings, and/or amplification filters if they have them. This is invaluable if you want your speakers to last and sound clean at high volumes!

Any good brand of speakers will be an upgrade, but its like buying shoes.. Just get the pair that feel comfortable on YOU Not really worth going overboard for normal listening purposes, save that for your Sub, box, and your Electronics where you can really enjoy that extra money spent.
