Blinker Problem

Ok, so I was replacing the radio head unit and when I put it back together I noticed that neither of my blinkers were working. I checked all of my fuses and they were all good then I turned on my hazard lights and I blew a fuse (my dash lights went out) I looked under the hood and sure enough there was a blown fuse so I replaced it but it immediately blew because my hazard button was still on. So I turned the hazard button off put in a third fuse and immediately drove home (I was working in a gas station parking lot). Could I have shorted out a wire or something while I was working in the dash area? Help PLEASE! I have no blinkers and the hazards dont work.

Did you have the headlights switched on when you blew the fuses?

Sounds like a short, you could try just disconnecting the wiring harness and put your old radio back in and see if the problem continues. If they work with the stock radio then double check all your connections and use electric tape at the least.

I know that the radio is nt it because I did tried that, I made sure eveything workd before i plugged it in. How can I tell where the shorted out wiring is

I'm assuming you got a wiring harness for the new radio? Just disconnect that from the stock harness and pull the wire connector off the back of the new radio. You will just have to look up and down each wire and make sure it doesnt have any bare wire exposed.

Also may check out the fuses on the back of the radio if it has them.

Im fairly sure its a shorted out wire. How would I identify where it is? Do Ineed a voltage detector?

Someone might already know the schematics of the wiring, but your best bet is looking at a wiring diagram to figure out which wire you may have screwed with.

I know you need to remove the center bezel off the dash, which is where the hazard light button is. Are you sure you put it on correctly? Check that 2-prong harness to make sure its not contacting any metal.

I would also definetly try removing the stereo and wiring harness and see if that causes the short to stop, which would be helpful.

You know that a short is just a wire that is usually going from the (+) to ground without a load, correct? A live wire may have been crossed by accident with a grounded wire.

Make sure the Hazards switch is plugged in.

You need to start from the beginning.
Pull it all out. Post up picks of your wiring. And double check the illumination wiring. And the hazard switch.

Make sure you capped off any orange (including orange w/ black stripe or orange with white stripe) wires. They should not be hooked to anything. They are for dimming illumination. Also run all black wires to a ground on a raw piece of metal. Grind a little of the coating or paint off and screw them down with a sheet metal screw. I originally just hooked my black wires together with the Toyota harness adaptor and it worked fine for a month but began to blow fuses. The stereo never lost power though. In my case it was blowing the "Tail" fuse which controls dash lights, tail lights and buzzer. When you fix the problem please update this thread becasue I spent a few days seaching for my answer. Another common problem is the adaptor box for trailer lights.
