Blinking AC Light- 30 second fix

OK, I know there have been other posts about this problem and the defective relay problem. Thanks for that info.

I had this problem not too long ago and being the electronic fellow that I am, I tried the "sophisticated" repair method.

1. I pulled the relay as others described.

2. I then smacked it sharply on all 4 sides and the top. (From about 4 inches, smack it on a hard surface- I used my retaining wall next to where I park).

3. Reinstall relay- Instant fix!

4. Buy a case of beer with the $$ saved :)

I don't remember exactly when it failed, but it has been several months and I am please to report that it has worked flawlessly ever since!

In all seriousness, though, relays do sometimes get "sticky" and this can free them up. It doesn't always last, but when it works, it is an instant fix.

Thought I'd share this as a new thread with a descriptive title so it is easy to find.

Sorry. Just updated my email address today. Didn't realize I had to re-verify account...

Everything should work now.

The "Fonz" method always works for me. Lasts about a month or two, I forget about it. then it messes up again,, I fix it and its good to go,, a never ending cycle.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting. Pulled the relay out and hit it against my trash can lid, put it back in. Didn't work. Tried it one more time. Boom. AC.

Couldn't believe it.

Thanks again!

Glad it worked! Thanks for the feedback. Good to know somebody actually reads the blather I post ;)

It may not be permanent (mine finally died last fall), but it can save a trip when you have the family in the car.

Here's another TIP: If you have the Power Inverter option in your vehicle, it may have the same relay. Mine did. Last fall I switched them and went without the inverter until I got a replacement.

A/C Relay

Good morning,

So thankful that you posted this info about the relay! I did exactly as you instructed and its working just fine. It saved me a costly trip to the dealership and saved me from further aggravation with having to deal with the representative at Toyota corp. She of course stated that there aren't any "known" defects with the A/C and being that my 4rnr is out of the warranty coverage period no assistance will be provided. I encourage everyone who has had this experience to bring it to the attention of Toyota, if they haven't already done so. :baby:
