Blown LEDs

Hi all

I have a 2018 4runner SR5 Premium. In order to upgrade my lights, I changed everything over to LEDs.

I put GTR Armor series switchback LEDs in the front (turn signal/running light), and installed the resistors at each corner. I blew out the bulb on the drivers side within 2 weeks. Got it replaced, and the new one blew out again in the same amount of time, this time on the opposite side.

I bought Supernova V.3 LED Headlights, H11 / H16 Bulbs for my low beams. Worked awesomely. After being in for 3 weeks, the passenger side low beam burned out.

Im curious if anyone is having same issues?

Try getting one from a reputable brand that gets used a lot on our trucks. Try zenon depot or mirimoto.

I'm running Hikari LED's for my fog/lows/highs; Yorkim LED's for my interior/tag lights, and ASTAR for the quad reverse lights (can't remember, but I think ASTAR's for my front switchbacks also) and haven't had any problems. Front LED resistors are generic, rear LED resistors are part of the Diode Dynamics Tail-As-Turn kit. All of that being said, my truck is only a week and a half old, so I guess I'll see about the longevity, but I don't remember seeing anyone (en masse at least) having similar failures

one question, do you have projector headlights? If so, try HIDs in the low beams

Where did you purchase your Hakari H16s for the fog lights? I can't find H16s on their Amazon storefront(or anywhere else for that matter). Do we use an alternative bulb number?

H11s fit just fine... I went with the Hikari Lumileds for low/high and the XHP50 for the fogs

The resistors aren’t for the bulbs they are for the flasher relay. The bulbs have their own internal resistors and can be wired directly without burning out.

Correct, and they are brand new. No hyper flash, so they are doing their thang....

I got another GTR switchback on its way. If that blows again, Ill send and get money back and try something else. No idea what to go with for the switchbacks.

buy once, cry once. I learned this the hard way with LED bulbs

I wouldn't cheap out on any LED's used for driving, etc. I've had them blow out or destroy themselves inside the headlight housing (and had to remove the headlights to fish out the pieces).

With LED"s Id go with what everybody else is running. You don't know what is rebranded junk these days.

I'm running Lasfit LED's and they are decently priced, extremely bright, and well made. Not sure if they make a switchback though.

I'm running Astars LEDs on the rest of my non-important/driving lights and they are holding up.

For your projector lo beams, just go with HID's kit. For some reason, LED's don't work very well with our projectors.

im running everything jdm astar on my 5th gen and havent had any problems. although i wish the astar 8th gen h11 i got are a bit brighter. i got these because i didnt have to do any cutting on the dust cap. everything tucked inside the headlight housing just fine.

i have HID H11 low beam and LED in the fog lights from DDM tuning they work great had them on my 06 4R. for 8 years only changed out once due to color fade and just put on my 18 4R life time warranty on all parts
DDM look them up.
