Specifically, any 3G owners use one of these for a DBS setup? I was thinking of putting a battery in the rear area to power a fridge, lights and OBA, all linked to a control panel to power accessories as well. I'd like to accommodate solar for the aux battery at some point as well.

I have read enough that it "seems" the National Luna and IBS systems are way overrated and building one yourself is more cost effective. Also the DBS systems I have seen from all the threads the batteries are side by side.


Any input on DBS for a 3G would be appreciated.

It doesn't matter what type of vehical DBA is going in... what matters is making sure you can fit what you need to fit where you need to fit it. And have an application in mind...

If you are going to relocate a battery to the rear, I would just make a platform and mount a Group 78 battery tray, like from a GM truck, to it. Those trays secure from the bottom side of the battery and are really easy to work with.

Then you just need to build up your mains cable with fusing and all the goods.

And lucky for you I literally just did a write up on two ACRs I have been playing with and really liked.

For the stuff you mentioned in your OP, this would be a pretty good way to go.

Add whatever battery protection circuitry you want if you want it too... Some fridges might have a LVD internally but I prefer to protect the entire branch so I can run pretty much any load 100% unattended without worrying about damaging my battery.

I added one to my sprinter van for a DBS.

Works great. Functions as it should. I also use a Bluesea LVD on it so I can't drain it too much.

Bluesea products are top notch. All of them. I base all my installs using their product.

I have one in my Tundra for my dual battery setup. Works great. It would work fine in a 4R as well, however it might be a little overkill.

The reason I went with the Blue Sea ACR 7620 in my tundra is because I have the tow package with the high output alternator. The amperage that alternator can generate is higher than the amperage ratings of most of the other ACR's on the market. The 7620 can handle up to 500 Amps.

Nice... whats the rating on the HO alt in the Tundra?

Even with a HO alternator all that matters is whats actually moving across the ACR... I bet if I put my DC clamp meter on your house battery even after running it down into the mid 11s it would be a lot less than you would think.

I bet it could still be handled by the smaller ACRs unless you actually have high load conditions present on the house side.

Not saying you don't need it, because you could very well have winching currents or other high loads where the 500A rating of the 7620 is needed, but I do see a lot of overbuilt systems too... not hard to go ham even if you dont need it. At least in the Tundra you have more space for it.
