Bluetooth problem

Hello all,

I just purchased a 2010 4runner and love it. However, I can't seem to get the Bluetooth option to work.
Consulting the owners manual I see that there are several options of audio systems. Mine is closest to type "a." However, unlike type A, mine has an icon in the top right corner that is a box with the letters BT in it and the antenna symbol that shows Bluetooth strength. Neither of these options are lit up however. I have tried holding down the "disk/aux" button but they still won't light up.
There are no audio/phone controls on the steering wheel. There is a phone button on the center console with up and down arrows. Pressing this button gives an auditory beep. Holding the phone button gives multiple beeps. No auditory commands or voice is ever heard.
There is what appears to be a microphone on the dash in front of the fuel gauge.
I have an iPhone and it does recognize the Bluetooth network availability but I can never get the display on the audio system to recognize or display the Bluetooth controls that are obviously there. Therefore no password is displayed to link the phone and the system is useless to me right now.

Hmm, i just set mine up on a '13, so my switches and buttons look a little different. Does it have a button to press to give voice commands? (Like the profile outline of a face with "voice/speech" lines near the mouth? That's what mine used to do the set up. The passcode was 0000 if your phone is simply looking for a code.

Thank you for the reply. It doesn't have a talking face (voice) button on the steering wheel like most of the newer ones. I've also never heard a voice command like the video you have sent a link to. Only, a beep when the button is pressed.
I guess it's kind of an oddball that had the option added on later or something. I assume toyota did it because of the option on the audio system display. The radio/cd audio does cut out when pressing the phone button but I guess the problem is somewhere in the audio system. Getting it to recognize Bluetooth.

Success

Tried arbitrary numbers.... 0000, network number, then 1234 and it connected. Answered a call and talked.
Have to play with it to figure out calling and the up and down arrows.

Correction... Semi-success

Bluetooth/antenna icons still don't light up on display and still don't know about the arrows (up/down) surrounding phone button. :smashputter:

Same problem

I just bought a 2011 4Runner with the same "console style" phone button as you. I can't pair-up my Samsung with mine either. I love to know how to do it if you figure yours out.

Is that a factory setup with the switch in the seat heater blank... or is that added by the dealer?

Edit: I found the post I remembered seeing. See http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/128355-2010-bluetooth-music-streaming.html#post1217554. Looks like the system with the console button is a port-added option, so it is not the same as the setup you see in the manual.

Aftermarket bluetooth?

I'm doing some research on a good Bluetooth adapter so I can make calls/listen to music wirelessly in the car. Here's the top two that I've seen so far. Does anybody have any experience with either of these two products? Which one would you recommend?

What 4Runner do you have, model, yr, headunit, entune... Does your 4runner have the BT system? Have you tried to pair the phone with the truck's system? What happens when you start the truck with the phone available for hook-up? ...Just curious... Rgds!
