Blurry Backup Cam?

Anyone have any issues with their backup cameras? A couple of months ago, mine just wouldn't work once in a while - it didn't happen too often, and I noticed if I stopped and restarted the truck the camera would be fine. Well, today I was driving the truck and I noticed the image was really dark and kind of blurry, like poor resolution. And the contrast seems dialed up. I cleaned the lens and it helped marginally, but obviously didn't improve the resolution and contrast issue.

Is this a known issue? Or has anyone had a failure with this system? I don't want to take it to the dealer and have them just replace the camera if it doesn't really need replacing (i.e., if there is a cheaper fix). If it does come down to replacing the camera, I'll just do it myself, but it's not my first choice (cheapest I could find online was $473!). The trouble is I just don't know how to troubleshoot this system. For all I know it's something a lot cheaper, somewhere between the screen and the camera, and a new camera won't even fix the problem, you know?

i've seen at least one report here of a backup camera going bad, but that person was under warranty so i don't think they posted the cost
