Interesting read. The nominal advantage in fuel economy would be offset in the US due to the much higher price of diesel fuel compared to gasoline. In other words, it still costs more to drive the 5 series. And a big car like that with a 180 hp diesel? I suppose I'm too American to appreciate something like that. I guess in the next few years as more diesels come on the scene here that will change.
