Boards finally off w/ some pics

I'm still not sold on taking off the running boards, although I might go out and buy a 13mm socket and just see what it looks like.
Is their a problem with rocks, mud, etc... with the running boards off? I would assume that help at least a little up front.

I haven't seeing if anything will get kicked up onto the doors, but I am trying to prevent that by going out and picking up a set of those front mudflaps like I mentioned. I noticed you have a 1998 4runner, and I think that area (around the front of the running board and how it's connected to the body/frame) differs from the same area on 99-up 4Runners.

I'm not sure how a generic set of mudflaps would look. If you get a chance to post pictures when you install yours it would be appricated.

And sure I'll get some pictures up as soon as my budget allows me. I think they will be effective but still unobtrusive if I mount them fairly high in the wheel well, so only a small amount of the flap hangs below the flare line. My goal is to align it so its functional, yet still aesthetically pleasing and doesn't just look tacked on

to be honest with you, i like the running boards better installed.

Limiteds do look a bit better with running boards but if you actually off road they are a liability.
The pre '00 SR5s with the factory flaps were the best option Toyota offered and then didn't offer any more front flaps.
I'm partial to no running boards since I'd never use them anyway.

It's just hard, for me, to get over seeing the transmission or whatever that is under the 4runner.

Once I get my Daystar in the mail and get it installed I might put the boards back on. I can't complain that when people see my car after I took the boards off, they think that I got the lift installed already
But yeah, does anyone know of a good simple rubber mud flap for the front? The Limited flare is actually relatively wide and does a good job of keeping debris off the side so far, but I want to take some preemptive action and get them before any damage is done

just thought i would say that if i wouldve had my running boards on the other night in the hills that i wouldve had body damage for sure.
when you are on uneven terrain and a rock comes up and hits the running board it would send it strait into the body. bad bad bad. sliders are the only way to go.

Well thanks for the resurrection - once I get my lift installed (which is finally a go, thanks to the parental units 
) I am going to put the boards back on and see how it looks. It can't hurt, sicne it only took 30 mins max. Although putting them back on might be a bit more of a hassle
