Body lift question

Put a 1" body lift on the 2001 yesterday per writeup off of here and everything went pretty smooth. I thought the steering linkage moved with the lift after I loosened the lower coupler bolt above the rag joint. But the steering was still tight. Loosened it more until only 3 treads remained below the bolt. So loosed the other end under the steering column and it moved 1/4" or so. Still the steering is a little tighter than it should be. I think I will try loosening the upper again but don't know how much spine is there. About 1/4" showing right now. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

No I didn't. The write up I used said it wasn't necessary. Do I get a new shaft that is longer?

I thought the steering shaft mods were only needed for 2" and above BLs?

You need a spacer. There is not enough steering shaft without it.
It's 3" dia., 1" thick & sandwiches in the rag joint. You need to loosen the upper rag clamp bolt and remove the 2 bolts that connect the upper/lower rag joint. Slide the upper rag up the shaft, insert the spacer between the 2 halves of the rag joint. Slide the upper back down & install 2 new bolts (1" longer), tighten upper rag clamp bolt.

Do not try to drive without this in place.

Many thanks Sportscarfan! I see it now. Must have looked at the chart wrong, looks like other years don't require this but mine does. On order!
