body moulding & bedlining ?'s

'01 limited with all the flares and junk...

How hard is it to remove the fender flares and door moulding? I'm not sure I want to keep the flares and body moulding...if I do I'm gonna get them rhino-lined, but I might just ditch all the flares and stuff and rhino-line the body itself depending on what it looks like with the stuff off. Would also like to do the bumper covers.

Also, any ideas on the lining itself...rhino lining vs. line-x vs. the do-it-yourself bedliner products at the autostore??? Spray on vs. roll or brush? Really don't know if I can do it myself or if I should bite the bullet and have someone do it.

What say you?

You can't remove your flares! The rear ones are will leave holes in the doors! But the fronts come off nicely!

2nd that. If you ditch the flares it won't look good! You'll have to plug the holes, then rhino line over that. I'd just rhino line them as is... Use the search function for ideas. Many guys have done this. Good luck!

Flares are very saleable, as you may have already found out, so be very careful if you do decide to pull them off, and don't go just ripping into them.

I've been there and had them off, and I have to agree with the other posters, just leave them on there, they look good.

The only thing I like was that with the flares off, the wheels/tires stuck out quite a bit from the fenders, so it really gave the truck an agressive looking stance, but it's all an illusion, and you can accomplish the same look, with the flares on by doing wheel spacers, or rims with less backspacing.

Reviving an old thread because I'm in a little predicament at the moment. I hit a deer the other night and it ripped off my limited fender flare on the front.

I found a replacement fender with the same paint code but it has a different flare (SR5) so I'm thinking of scrapping the whole limited flare setup and bedlining the exposed sheetmetal. I know I'll have to plug some holes but I was wondering if anyone has a link or a pic of someone that has already done this or has atleast removed their flares.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I know lots of people have had good luck with the rattlecan bedliners(i think rustoleum was the best).

For my flares I used 2 rattle cans of Duplicolor spray on bed liner and I did it myself for $24 total. They are holding up great!

I am also wondering about this. As some of you know I wrecked my door on a tree about a month ago. I have a replacement door that is from a Limited and has the cladding on it. I pulled the cladding off but now have to fill the holes and get it painted. Whats the best way to fill the holes properly?

I'm going to be putting a little different spin on this. All the cladding will be coming off to get resprayed. While they are off, the bottom of the doors, fenders, door jambs and rockers are going to get bedliner. Not risking any rust in this thing.

I know of 3 ways people fill those holes before bedlining. The first and the method I used on my landcruiser was bondo. It may take a couple applications to fill in a larger hole but if you can put a piece of tape on the backside of the hole you're trying to fill before slapping the bondo on then you'll have a nicer experience.

The second is buying those plastic plugs of varying sizes. You can find them at Lowes or HomeDepot or any automotive store. Try to find some with a thin head or it may show up through the bedliner. One other thing I'd do is sand over the plugs while I'm prepping the surface. This will make them even thinner and less likely to show up.



The third is metal tape. Simply tear a piece off and stick it over the hole and then bedline away.
