Body Mount Chop?

Is this really necessary? I was about to swap to FJ coils and the 3/2 lift and came across this. It was originally a link here:

It just strikes me that most people wouldn't have done this but the post says its needed.

Any thoughts?

I don't think it's necessary unless you get tires bigger than 33s. I could be wrong though.

With 285's I haven't had any issues. 295s or larger are where that body mount becomes a problem.

I have the Overland 2.5 kit running 285-70/17 Toyo Open Country AT 2's with OEM wheels and 1.25" spacers. Just sitting on flat ground and turning the wheel, the outer corner comes to within less than 1/4" from the body mount. I have yet to take it out and do some "rub testing" in the dirt so I'm not sure if this gap will remain the same...lessen, or will rub while offroading..but it does seem very close.

I don't see anything wrong with that modification...so long as you weld that piece back in like shown. I'm not sure if I'll do it yet because I think I'm going to add a 1" body lift then see where that puts me.

BTW...I believe that Crozhawk guy is running 37's.

With my Methods (17x8.5 w/0 offset) on 265/70's i was EXTREMELY close to my rear body mount and fender corner with my 1.25" Spidertrax. I ended up taking them off and im much more comfortable with it.

How does removing the wheel spacers help? I would think it would be the opposite.

instead of being right on the rear body mount at full crank its now a good 1/2"-3/4" away from it. It was too far pushed out, pushing towards the mount, with them off the wheel is farther away from the mount.

Im confused on how this doesnt make sense.

I need the spacers...or wheels with 4+ inches of BS to clear my upper control arms.

? It was just a question.

In that sense I am we'll aware, I meant in the sense of the body mount. I guess you did not mean that way though.
