Bodylift + Stock Spare = HELP!

My 4R has a body lift on it and this prevents me from accessing my stock spare. Normally you would just stick the tool in the hole on the rear bumper (haha) and it engages with the mechanism that lowers the spare. However, with a body lift the hole in the bumper sits higher while the mechanism on the frame is at the stock location, thus creating a situation where I cant angle the tool down far enough to engage with the mechanism.

What I'd really like is to hear from people who have had this problem and were able to resolve it, or from people who know of solutions. I'd love some solid feedback on this.

I haven't checked to see if this would work but my thinking is to remove the rear bumper and cut a large notch in place of the hole so that I can get more of an angle on the tool.

Don't stick the tool through the stock access hole. Just bypass it from underneath the truck, it's pretty simple once you figure it out.

Oh, and btw, let's not kid ourselves; no dudettes here, just one big sausage fest ...

Buy a Savage Offroad rear bumper. You can access the hole without any issue.

no ive lifted up the black plastic cover over the rear bumper. mine actually came right up pretty easy.

Yes, that's how I did it... Remove the black plastic trim on top of the bumper. Voila!

I tried to go under the truck but i just couldn't get it, the tire is just in the way at all angles it seemed. Will try again and if not I'll remove the black plastic piece.

So that I'm clear, Is this the piece that is only visible when you open the rear hatch? I have the chrome bumpers.

Yes, that's how I did it... Remove the black plastic trim on top of the bumper. Voila!

WOOPS never mind! I now see the black piece you're talking about, duh! I leave the truck at my parent's house cuz its a safer neigborhood and closer to the mountains. Clearly I don't get to see her as much as I need to!

So this piece should just lift out right?

Yup, it just pulls right off. You may as well hit it with a few coats of Bumper and Trim paint while you have it off. I have pics of the paint you'll need in my build thread.

You could just remove bumper entirely. Ive been really thinking of this lately as my extreme offroad adventures are a little rough and my rear tow hitch and bumper has been getting in the way. Hitch on rocks, bumper on tires.

I sold my hitch and stock bumper before they got too damaged. Got $250 for the bumper and around $150 for the hitch. This offset the cost of my new rear bumper nicely. Something to think about...
