Bolt on sliders

Specifically,Shrockworks with the "step" style. How much weight would be safely possible to use them for? Would you be able to take a hi-lift jack and lift one side with them? It seems sketchy since there's not many bolts, but I know I've seen people do it on other sliders. I'm just not sure what style sliders they were. This is more of a gee-wiz question myself and another we're talking about.

I don't have personal experience with them yet. However they are made to take the full weight of the vehicle on a rock.
 
i have the "original" shrockworks sliders - they've been used to lift the vehicle to repair a tire while out on a trail

If they're designed to be slammed into an inanimate object by the vehicle, they're likely safe to gradually support the partial weight of the vehicle as you jack it up with a hi-lift.
 
I get the slamming down on a rock thing. But that is directly underserved the frame or close to it. The jack would be on the outside of the step, ~6 inches or so outboard of the frame. Iv compared them to other bolt ons, and the plates aren't as long that mount to the frame or have as many bolts holding it. That's where the question is coming from.

TL;DR they drop full vehicle onto rock from 18" on DOM, HREW and Square type sliders, on the inside and on the outside.
 
I have the Shrockworks dimpled sliders which have square main tubes. I weighed one before it was installed and it was slightly over 50 lbs.. That is one heavy duty piece of steel. I am certain it will hold the weight of the truck.
 
I have CBI units on my 4th gen that bolt around the frame and I've never had issues with them. Hell when I get lazy at work sometimes I just throw the rack legs under the slider bars instead of the frame without issue.

The FJ Guys have aftermarket units that bolt to the frame via factory nuts in the frame ad they hold up just fine off-roading and jacking up from what I hear.

It just comes down to the design/quality of the sliders.

No doubt the construction is strong, however I believe the OP is concerned about the attachment of the slider to the frame, not the strength of the slider itself. Sliders in that video were welded onto the frame not bolted, cool demonstration though.

I had similar concerns with the bud built sliders I used to have but as others have stated they held up fine, I think it's a non-issue. With all the companies making sliders that bolt on in the same fashion if there was a problem with that attachment method I'd think we'd have heard about it by now. For what it's worth I'm running 4x4labs sliders now and they utilize brackets with giant U-bolts around the frame, seems stronger to me than the standard bolt on style but I haven't managed to break either style.

That's what I meant by design/quality. The U-Channel design (like the CBI ones I have were it's pinched at the top by bolts) seems equally as strong as the welded on units.

The units that actually bolt to existing nuts in the frame seem to actually be as strong as well, at least on the FJ side they seem to be. My buddy has an FJ and was telling me even the factory TRD/Trail Teams bolt-on units word as well as any other aftermarket sliders. I don't know if the 5th gens have the same amount of pre-welded nuts though, I haven't looked that closely between the two.
 
Consider that the bolt on units are dependent on the quality of the bolts used more than construction of the Slider itself. Grade 8 or 10.9 bolts please!:hatsoff:
 
Fair enough. That's what I wanted to hear. I've heard of guys easily lifting from there without a problem. Thanks for everyone's input.

The 5th gen CBI sliders use so many bolts, I'm frankly more worried about the tubes failing before the bolts do.
