So I'll be moving out to northern ID by May 9th for some wildland firefighting. Just wondering if any of you out there live in the area. Im anxious to encounter some real mountain trails...

I use to go up to my friends house in the summer and he lives in Bonners Ferry, Just outside of sandpoint. Real nice area. Not much in the way of wheeling up there except the old logging roads.

Ahh but those logging roads are very beautiful! I'm sure buy talking to the locals you will find some very good spots. Just make sure its on public land not private land. Some of those guys up there shoot first then ask questions.

I grew up just over the hills from there in north east WA. Northport area. We used to go over to Idaho often, endless miles of wild country out there.

its a great area! I grew up in Nelson BC Canada (about an hour north of bonners ferry) Tons of country to explore. You will find trails just ask the locals. Plus, your pretty close to "Whipsaw Trail" in Princeton BC. If you havent heard of it, do a google search. It was rated one of the top trails in North America by BFGoodrich in 07 or 08. Cheers!

Priest Lake is amazing. There's a lot of cool old growth forests up there too.

it sure is. I like lake pend Oreille. Its huge, and surprisingly warm. I remember hearing its 1200ft deep. Good fishing up there too. Kootnei river etc.

Not to mention that they ceased all building on the Lake (without county approval) back in the 70's (I think), so it has this amazingly untouched feel to it.

Heh, yeah Ive read about some of the Fighting Whities up there and their issues with the ATF. Super stoked about flyfishing in the area. Kinda hoping I acciedentally happen upon a bull trout, or ten, C&R of course. Logging roads are my kind of flavor, 4Hi cruizing and nothing super technical.

You will love it then. You can drive for days!!! Take extra gas!
