Booster Pump Replacement

My 2003 4runner has a bad booster pump assembly. How hard is it to replace this? The dealer want $3000. I want to do it myself to save some money. Thanks

I have seen a few wrecked runners around my area...my thoughts are to try and pull a Brake Booster unit out of it for a spare...I may do the same just in case I get this issue too.

not sure if it can be done easily but its not a serviceable part so it needs to be fully replaced...Good Luck

I'm sure Blackworks will chime in soon. I'm pretty sure he has swapped out a few and could tell you everything you need to know. I wanted to do it myself but I believe you are supposed to have a toyota scan tool or atleast the program so that once the unit is actually installed it can bleed the solenoids in the unit individually. I'm not 100% on that but Blackworks will know for sure.

I recently purchased a oem service manual for my 2009 4runner. 5 huge books plus wiring diagram. Once it comes in I'll see what is needed to bleed the system.

Chmura what are you getting for symptoms from the pump? Buzzing or constant cycling and how long does it cycle? Etc..

Those are good instructions, I also made a thread that had pictures to help people who wanted to tear down the unit themselves.

If you're sure that its the accumulator pump/tank section of the unit you see if http://www.villagetoyotaparts.com/ (A website I like to use for parts quotes and orders) sells the components separately, then you can use the guide & FSM to replace that section of the unit.

I will warn you ahead of time though, that after you've reinstalled the unit. It needs to go to the dealer or someone with a factory capable scantool to do a proper computerized bleeding process to bleed the 4Runner properly.

Thanks for all the help. I found a salvage Booster pump motor and accumulator for $275.00. I'll give it a shot a lot better than $3000.
