booster seats, what a pain!

our oldest recently graduated from the infant car seat to the booster car seat, where you use the lap belt over the car seat as opposed to the integrated harness.

what a pain in the a$$!

the way the seat beld latchs are designed makes it very difficult to click the seat belt in place. you basically have to climb into the back seat, over your child, hold the latch in place, and then click the seat belt in place.

it is so annoying that my wife refuses to take the 4runner out because she doen't want to climb on top of our daughter. my daughter hates it because we smother her whenever we put her seat belt on.

Booster seat

What's the age and weight of your daughter? Wouldn't mind knowing what I get to look forward to. My wife and I are expecting our first in April and I've already used the T4R to haul our niece (3 yrs, 30 lbs) in her car seat around using the LATCH system and love how easy it is.

Although, it doesn't matter how much of a pain in the a$$ it is. My wife can pry my 4Runer from my cold, dead hands if she wants me to give it up because of something like this.

I feel your pain. I had the same issue but ended up reducing the problem greatly by going with a backless booster seat. So much better and my daughter can most of the time put the belt on hearself now.

the latch system is great, but it does not work with the booster. when the kids are above 30 lbs you are supposed to switch to the booster style, so i don't really have a choice. at any rate, it is inevitable that they end up in a booster.

next time i will get a backless one, but i may have to wait a while.

Not true. Many car seats ( such as one by Britax) goes up to 60 pounds.) Your average car seat goes to 40 lbs.. You can only use the LATCH system up to 30 lbs., above 30 lbs. you have to use the seat belt to attach the car seat.

We were so pleased with the Britax car seats we owned that we purchased (and are currently using) the Britax booster seat. It as side impact protection. It also has protection on either side of the head, which comes in handy when the son falls asleep. Instead of his neck bending way over from his drooping head, his head just rests on the cushioned restraint.

The only thing a backless booster does is keep the seatbelt from choking the kid. Unless you have a 50 lbs kid, I wouldn't just use a backless booster. A young child will just slip right out of a seat belt when sleeping in a backless booster.

I recently had my Britax carseat installed into the center seat with the seatbelt method. I was told that it was safer for them to be in the middle. However, another carseat installer advised my sister that bc it was a toyota, it HAD to be on one side or the other. Can someone give a little advice??? Center or side??? Is the "latch" system that much better than the seatbelt???

Yeah, I have a few Recaro seats as well that can be used with a 5 point harness until they are pretty old. Definitely long enough until the kid is old enough to buckle him/herself. I have a (just turned) 6 year old and he's in a booster and it's very easy for him to fasten his own seatbelt now. I also have my 2-1/2 year old in a recaro 5 point booster-type seat and she'll be in that until we can mover her to a standard booster.

I had to get rid of my S60 R because of space constraints and the difficulty of car seats. The 4R is a freaking DREAM right now in comparison!

seat belt clip

I recently purchased two of these type belt clips and it has made a world of difference, both my 6 yo and 3yo can not buckle their own belts.
