Borla cat back vs trd cat back vs borla muffler

Any recommendation on the following exhaust system?

Trd cat back $ 660, labor $0 DIY. Can return to stock.
Borla cat back $ 560, labor $0 DIY, can return to stock.
Borla muffler 40664 only, $100, labor $100, $200 to return to stock.

My friend is telling me to go trd. He thinks toyota can only use trd because they both have t. (Just kidding). I think borla may use better stainless. I'm looking for some more sound but not too loud on highway.

I have a 5sp and the 4r is not daily driver.

Bought a TRD cat back system15 years ago for my 1997 4runner. Still fine today. Cat forward I am very happy with Magnaflow. Never used the Borla so I can't comment but TRD has been good to my 4runner.
 
Ive got a magnaflow cat and larger 2 1/2 piping there back to a thrush sport muffler.

Love the tone; its fairly deep and moderate with a slight growl and crackle. In total I spent around 250 for all parts and labor
 
Subscribing...I've been pondering this same question. I got a leak in my OEM exhaust so figure if I'm going to replace it...might as well do it right :-)!! I hope more guys chime in.

Any drone on highway speed with trd? 60+ mph?

I know you have a few options you are pretty set on, but just something to think about, if you take the truck off-road especially rocky terrain you will risk banging up a pretty expensive system if you go with one of the cat-backs. I do not have any experience with any of the options, but just thought I'd give you something to think about in your decision.

Anyone have photos of the TRD exhaust? Borla may have manufactured the systems for Toyota/TRD back then.
 
I just got the Borla muffler installed. It cost me $150 total. I got the 2 1/4" model, but from the looks of it, maybe I should have gotten the 2 1/2" model.

It is more throaty 30%-40% than stock. Just a little louder at 60 mph.

If your old exhaust is still in good shape, buy the complete exhaust. You can put the stock back on and sell the take off Borla or TRD.

TRD exhaust

Just pick up a TRD 3rd gen exhaust. It is very very nice. Made in USA.

TRD doesn't make their exhausts. They've had at least 3 different manufactures making their systems for them. At one time it was B&B Tri-flo, then Borla, then someone else, I forget. I'm not sure who makes it now.

JBA makes a nice system for the

It's very affordable and liftetime warranty. I'll have to see what price I can get if you guys want one.

JBA will work. As long as it's not a CA truck. Most compaines never tested on newer years, but will work. Just like Borla shows 96-02, but depends if you have a west coast 4Runner, or if you bought one that came from there.

I think trd at one time offered 2 versions for those trucks affected.

No offense to the forum, but i just want to post for sale that Borla exhaust i have.

Any suggestions? I can't even find how many replies i need to make!
