This is an update regarding the Borla exhaust system (PN 140146) I installed on my 06 V8 Sport Edition...
Last week I went out to the 4Runner and noticed that the right tailpipe was hanging a bit low. I checked and found it was loose. Closer inspection revealed that the rubber bushing between the tailpipe and the hanger had cracked and the hanger fell loose. Since I've had this system for only a year and about 10,000 miles, I figure this is a premature failure due to low quality rubber or too much heat around the tailpipes.
I also checked the driver side hanger and found that the rubber was also cracking, but not completely failing yet.
After this discovery, I contacted the supplier where I got the Borla system, Courtesy Toyota in Florida. I emailed Tad Bowling, the parts guy who I had been in contact with before. Prior experiences with Tad and Courtesy have been great and the prices and service are tough to beat. Those of you who I referred to Tad already know this and I would be surprised if anyone had an experience other than satisfactory.
So I explained my problem to Tad in a short email. He replied within a day and said the replacements were in the mail - two new rubber bushings along with two new metal hanger brackets (which weren't even needed). I received them within a few days, and the parts and shipping were free replacements.
The system is good as new again and I'm happy with the fast resolution to this problem. I just wanted everyone to be aware of the early failure on these Borla-supplied bushings and be advised that they can be replaced under warranty. For those of you who haven't purchased this system but are considering it, I highly recommend you go through Tad Bowling at Courtesy Toyota. You won't be sorry.
Oh yeah, on a side note, it appears that the original Toyota rubber bushings are thicker and may last longer than the ones supplied with the Borla system. For a quick fix, I found my original Toyota OEM bushing that was left over from the install and used that for the loose tailpipe. I'm going to see which one lasts longer after another 10,000 miles.
