Borla XR-1?

i wonder how is this compared to my cherrybomb vortex?

You should definitely Dyna Mat the interior, or use a similar product. We didn't get the chance to get rides in each other's 4Runners but in mine the Dynamat has made a HUGE improvement. I got this done before I knew anything about taking the interior apart, so it was installed by Circuit City (I know I know..., let the flaming ensue) when I got my stereo system installed. It was relatively expensive - however, there are other brands that work well too ( I have heard good things about B-Quiet, etc.

Oh also, I like the sound of the XR-1. Good stuff man
 
You probably know what kind of sound deadening you want to use, but I will recommend a few.

RAAMAT-best bang for the buck.
Second Skin Damplifier or Damplifier Pro
Second Skin Spectrum

Second Skin also make a few other products that would work very well.

Cool! thanks bud. I only said Dynamat because it's the only one I've heard of. How do those three compare to dynamat? More cost-effective? Basically I want the most sound deadening for the lowest price, so somewhere in the middle. Medium price, medium sound deadening
 
Dynamat is a little expensive in my opinion. If I'm not mistaken Second Skin Damplifier is about the same cost and will probably work a little better.

RAAMAT isn't too expensive and works pretty well.

Second Skin has some neat products that I don't know much about. Apparently they have one that you paint on.
 
Second Skin is relatively the same price as dynamat but it is a superior product. RAAMmat sound more like what you are looking for though.
 
Reviving old thread and think I'm sold on the Borla, I would however like to see a few pics of how it's mounted underneath? Since it's not an offset muffler I just want to see a few shots of how the shop handled that.

I can get pics but they basically just added some pipe with slight bends to match the center-center format of the muffler...easy as pie

Yeah that's what I figured. How do you like it now that you've had it a while? Is it holding up? I've know glasspacks can get raspier/rattier over time.

I love it...the only part of my exhaust that isn't rusting away and it still sounds as amazing as the first day I installed it
 
I also love mine:) I got the longer 22 in. version and it sounds amazing at high rpm's and no drone at low rpm's. Much better than the flowmaster I had on before, highly recommend!
 
I got the Borla Pro-XS which is 19"X4"x9.5" case size.
Replaced the Magnaflow of roughly the same size that literally fell apart on the inside within 1000 miles.

So far I love it, at idle it sounds basically stock, very quiet, there is no drone on the highway that I have heard so far.
Yet when you get the RPMs over 2500-3000 it has a nice growl to it.

It is like stock plus that breathes far better.

I am not certain yet but I think I am getting somewhere between 1.5-2mpg better mileage also. That is combined with the better intake.

I would like to know the reasoning why car manufacturers do not use better intakes and exhaust to begin with?
Makes absolutely zero sense.
Better breathing, better mileage, better all around for the health of the engine and all for what could be no more money from a manufacturer standpoint.
 
This is from my old thread on the Borla I installed back in 09/2011...

I finally ordered the Borla XR-1 # 40942 and a new Stainless tip to replace the junk Summit brand tip that is rusting. I also noticed that my flowmaster
is starting to rust through on the bottom where the baffles are welded on
the inside of the muffler.

Awesome, think I'm sold on it. I was debating between the Flowmaster and this one. I've always liked the sound of Flowmaster, I had one on my V8 Tundra and it was awesome. But think I like the quality of the Borla so I'll give it a try.

BTW... Where on LI to you live? I was born in Patchogue, I still have a bunch of Family there too.

I just ordered a Borla SS cat back. Get in line! My guy told me they're out at the warehouse and have to do a production run. I'm expecting mine in the next month or two...

I can but it'll take me a few days- my truck is in the shop for the SAS and I'm not sure how long it'll be before I get back there...
