Bought a 2008 Sport Edition 4x4 V8

I picked up a 2008 Sport Edition 4x4 with the V8. So far I am pretty stoked. Was driving a 2011 Elantra for a few years after selling off my 2002 4runner SR5 4x4. This one is pretty clean and been in Arizona its whole life and just turned 70,000 miles. A few things I think I need to do is 1) Replace the rotors and pad, feel a bit of a shake when breaking hard from higher speeds. The other thing that bothers me is after I brake and let go of the brakes, its seems to have this small thump sound. I did poke around and it sounds like it could be the drive shaft issue but not 100% sure. If so I would like to get the newer driver shaft that should resolve the issue but I want to be certain that is really the issue. Has anyone gone out and just bought the driveshaft rather then getting it done with the warranty? Obviously that isn't an option in my case so I would like to get an idea of what it is going to cost? Does it fully resolve the issue? Any suggestions are appreciated...

Congrats on the 4runner and welcome to the forum. Grease the drive shafts thoroughly before dropping money on new ones. Seems to work for a good number of folks and worked for me.

Grease the zirks on the shafts. Be a good time to change all the fluids and complete a full inspection.

Thanks, I do feel pretty lucky to pick this one up. I had been patiently looking for about 8 months now and I was trying to find one under 40,000 miles but this one was just to clean to pass up. I wasn't looking for the V8 but dam am I glad I got it, its pretty peppy compared to the V6. As far as fluids, looking at the carfax most of the stuff was just done. It does show the brakes were replaced and serviced, but not sure what exactly was done. I called that phone number and without the previous license plate or owner's name, they can't pull the information up in their system. I was hoping they could by VIN but I guess that is not the case. I may just go ahead and pickup some nice slotted\drilled rotors and some good pads and do them anyways. I am also planning on window tint and leveling out the front end, but will wait until I need new tires and do it all at once. Other then that my wife bought me a set of weathertech all weather floor matts and I am pretty stoked to say the least.

Good looking truck. Great color combo. I'd skip the slotted/drilled rotors and just go with a good EBC or OEM replacement.

I had that same thump from the drive shaft. Pump it full of grease everytime an oil change is done and issue resolved.

Hi and nice find! I just got mine in May.

If you go to dealers, go to Avondale Toyota. I don't know if you still have it under warranty, but I had the drive shaft, third brake light, 2 cv boots, 2 stripped bolts on front skid plate and window sill rubber taken care of under warranty. They work with you and value their customers. Some of this should have been taken care of before I bought it from a Las Vegas dealer and they just fixed it.

I'd check with dealers in the area to see if they have discounts for online purchases. I believe Riverview Toyota does.

Congrats! I just bought a 08 sport urban runner Tuesday. 68,000 miles. V6, has a lot of torque. Previously had a 11 jeep hemi , but got tired of $600 payments and have always wanted a 4runner.

Looks like mine, 06 Sport, V8, w/ 93K when I bought about 2 months back. I had Toyota do the tranny fluid, $250 insurance, without any history.
