Bought a stock 2001 Sport two weeks ago and...

Lol. Not much is on the burner at the moment. I'm pretty happy with where it stands now. Maybe a rear bumper and some armor down the road, but that's only after more power is added. Spring I'm going to build a rear cargo/sleep system.

Yeah, added an ARB not too long ago. I can't see how I can put BudBuilt, rear bumper, sliders, etc without getting a S/C. Seems like I wouldn't have enough power to pull out of my drive.

Exactly. I'm not looking to race or anything.

Small update. I've been complaining of a lack of power for a little bit now. Decided to do something about it. I thought they only added 10 hp, but after testing I found a 17 hp increase! Oh and my mpgs are now over 30.

Thanks. And I'd be down to test out the locker, but you might have to pull me out of spots if we're going someplace where a locker is needed.

Right now I'm tentatively planning a climbing trip around then. If it falls through, I'm in for sure.

Thanks guys. I like that I went with the grey. I didn't want them to stand out too much. The one thing I was worried about is the lighter grey being too close to the stock color, but I think it's just different enough to make it work.

granted if you venture into any of the mud holes there you might need a snorkel.. Last time I went into one at the begining of summer it was a bit sketchy even with my snorkel..

I know you've seen my rig (Thanks again for the advice! ) and I'm taking the running boards off for sure and when I have money saved after some basic mods done, I might consider some sliders, since they don't go as low as running boards and actually help to protect the vehicle - while giving an optional step...

Couple of questions... 1) Do they rub your pants/legs when you get down? As in, if you don't use them, and just step directly to the ground? and 2) do they reduce the value of the vehicle because when they are welded on, they're permanent? Or can you unweld with little effort? (with a welder or fab shop of course)...

They come as bare metal, so you can paint them however you want.


As for your questions, I'll do my best to answer them. Let me know if there's any confusion. I added the top grip tape to them so it would be less slick to walk around on them and so it would protect the paint a bit more from people stepping on them. It did take some getting used to with getting in and out so you didn't give yourself a raspberry on the back of your leg. Now I don't even think about it. As far as value, I can't see it detracting from that at all, but I guess it depends on the potential buyer. I don't plan on ever selling it, but if I do, it would be as is, so the buyer would most likely be a person who would want the sliders on there.

I painted them with Rustoleum's 2x flat black paint. If I had to do it again, I'd probably prep them more (i.e. prep the surface by sanding/scuffing it. I just cleaned it) so the paint adhered better. Either way they're gonna get beat up, so just use something that's easy enough to just touch up here and there.

I need to bedline mine as rust paint just aren't cuttin' it anymore.

They're actually holding up real well. I did it thinking I'd probably have to replace them every year or so, but there's no sign of wear or peeling at all. Pretty cool considering how wet it can get up here.
