Bought a Tacoma, Sold the Runner

We keep a single vehicle in our family, and we were driving our 3rd Gen 4Runner for the past five years. It was finally showing its age as far as being our single family vehicle, and we wanted to get a new vehicle....

We got a new Tacoma (2015) and sold the Runner.... :cry2:

I haven't been in the forums here for a while because I've been super busy, but it's hard to imagine being in here too much in the future.

I definitely need to say thanks to everyone here, though, as I received mammoth amounts of help keeping the Runner running smoothly. Its new owner inherited a well-cared for vehicle thanks to here.

I am already thinking about my future Runner. Maybe someday we will be able to afford a new one (the Tacomas were a bit more affordable than a new 5th), but likely, I'd like to pick up a rust-free southern 3rd Gen, and restore it to perfection as a hobby.

I hate to see ya go. If you learned anything from this forum, I hope it is never to use belt dressing again. Ha. Post a pic or two of the new ride if you have a chance.

The opposite occurs here in the Southern US; Tacomas usually go for much more than 4runners, it is a truck thing.
 
I did the reverse, selling my 06 Tacoma and going to use 3rd generation a daily driver. I'll miss the Tacoma though, great power and drives comfortably with bilsteins in it.

You did good lol, I love my 3rd gen but a built new Taco would be awesome in soooo many ways.
 
I honestly, considered modding my current Taco, to full 4WD. As like the Op, the mrs' and I run a single "cage" household (we also own 2 motorcycles, so a truck is super handy).

After careful consideration of the cost, and modification to our "Daily" driver. It was thrown into the hat, as Get another 4WD. Which also make camping easier as we've converted the rear to a full time sleeping/storage area. So, we've done the reverse as the OP (and followed a couple others into 4runner ownership).

Op, I know a couple people with the latest gen Tacoma's, and they simply could not be happier! If it wasn't for camping, I'd most likely have bought a new one myself and modded out the old truck (our is a 2004 Pre-Runner fwiw).

I knew you were going to reply to this and bring up belt dressing. LOL.

I'll try to get a few pics. It is a charcoal double cab with a long bed. Totally stock, so it looks kind of... plain. The only mods I'm thinking of at the moment are wind visors, beefed up lighting, and the most aggressive winter tires I can possibly buy (in a few months).
 
take care, glad to see you stuck with a toyota, i understand the need to upgrade(lexus GX470 here). -dont be a stranger either. :sadwave:

I honestly see a Runner in our future--they are one-of-a-kind. I also love Land Cruisers... but that's a whole other story (maybe an import from Australia), but see how expensive this is getting?). I do have my eye on some fold open camper/tent tops... but the Missus will kill me if I start spending more money.
 
While I may never understand the purpose of owning a pickup truck instead of an SUV, we look forward to your triumphant return to the vastly superior world of 4runners.
 
Same here, I bought a 2014 Tacoma Off road double cab (4x4) last year with the intention of replacing my 01 4runner(2wd). I have always lusted for the double cab 4x4 ever since they came out with (ist gen) but could not afford it before. So i settled for a the 4runner as it was a good deal when i bought it back in 2009.
One year later I still have my 4 runner, just can seem to let it go. while the Tacoma drives better and have all the bells and whistle, My wife and i seem to alwas fight for the 4runner. go figure?
