Bought iphone - won't work in 4R - anyone help??

Hello all.

Well, I just bought the iphone and tryed to play it in the car, but it wouldn't work. I have the ipod and a male to male jack and that works fine through the stereo.

I plugged in the same male/male jack in and it only played on the phone, not through the stereo. Anyone here know how to get it to work???

Must be something wrong with your iphone jack. The audio jack in the 4R is not an ipod, mp3 player, handheld specific jack. It will play anything that is plugged in to it. For example, I have a Dell Axim handheld with MP3s on it and listen to my mp3s through the stereo. Also, I hook up my laptop to it to listen to mp3s (also listen to movies while everyone else watches movies on the screen). I hook up the jacks and it works. Obviously ipods work too. See if you can hook up some mini-speakers or headphone/earpiece to the iphone and check if it's working.

I think you may need to buy some $9 adapter for your iPhone jack because the actual plug incorporated with the iPhone's earbuds also has control contacts for the mic/button does it not? Or perhaps the wire's mini-jack plug you are using is not reaching all the way into the iPhone's recessed plug opening. Just something to check.

Append: According to some other users, the fix is simple. Just take a razor or X-Acto and trim the extra plastic surrounding the wire's mini-plug to the appropriate size until it fits into the iPhone's recessed jack.

The jack works for sure, just used my ipod on it. I havent had a chance to cut some of the material back on the cord, but i will give it a try - hope it works, that would be awesome.

Are you sure the cable that you are plugging into your iPhone goes in all the way. I know the iPhone has a recessed headphone jack thus preventing many cables and headphones from using it without an adapter that extends the headphone jack thus allowing you to plug any headphone or cable into it.
