Bought my first 4runner today!

Hey, just bought a 1990 2nd gen 2 door 4cyl manual 4runner to use as both my work truck and main transport for myself, my wife and our 4-year old son.

Always wanted a 4runner and having spent the last month looking at many trucks from the 80s thru the late 1990s my wife and I made an instant emotional connection with this one:

It's mostly original, had some body repair (in steel), 60,000km on rebuilt engine, clutch is new, manual shift feels tight and the 4wd works great. tailgate has some rust below the glass but works fine. Funky red cloth and vinyl interior. previous owner claims 650km (400miles) from the 50 litre (13 US gal.) tank.

So: did I choose well? Can someone point me to a good information resource for this year/model?

Any help appreciated.

Can someone point me to a good parts supplier for this year/model? I need some trim pieces, some other bits.

Also, for some reason when I turn off the ignition and remove the key the engine sometimes keeps running! I have to deliberately stall to kill it - any ideas?

I’ve always wanted a 4Runner and found a pretty pristine 2006 v6 2 wd with 118,000 miles. I want to give it a more rugged look. What will give me the biggest bang for my buck? I’m somewhat handy but have not tackled a vehicle restoration.

I know I can look at pics of similar rigs but I don’t have any idea as to the degree of difficulty for a newby. You guys suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Tbh it’s really up to you. Maybe a roof rack and to bigger at tires.

That's a neat one! Nice find

Still considering.

Congrats on your new purchase. I'm still in the shopping phase. Ford guy for 30 years so this would be a big change. Had a Ranger for 5 years and now an F-150 for 23 years. I'm not a small guy, 6'1", 220 lbs, so I'm a little concerned about space.
