Bought my first 4runner today!

Great choice! I love the manual transmission I feel it really fits the character of the T4R, it is too bad they no longer offer it in the newer models. I understand they wouldn't sell many, but they would have sold one to me.

You made a great choice, hard to make a bad choice with a T4R, seems like it was well loved!

Picked up a one owner 2012 Limited 2WD on New Years eve and could not be happier with it. Replaced the X-REAS yesterday with a $100 brand new set of take offs from a 2021 truck with <50miles on it a quick service, plugs, oil filters, fluids and some floor mats and a bulb and I'm loving it. Forgive me if this is not the place for such comments but i'm excited :) Now i have to find the right place to ask questions on the four DTC codes i need to clear in the hope they are not expensive....
All the best for the New Year T4R members !!

Tbh it’s really up to you. Maybe a roof rack and to bigger at tires.

Agreed!

Congrats looks clean

Some other suggestions from free to more expensive:

Free or cheap:

Remove the side steps (the support brackets are prone to rust anyways)
black out the chrome grill (plastidip or paint)
plastidip the wheels (anything shiny looks less rugged in my option)

small investment:
All terrain tires (don't necessarily need E-rated if you are just going for looks)
Hitch mounted swing out tire carrier: RIGd UltraSwing Spare Tire Hitch Mount for 4th and 5th Gen 4Runner - RIGd Supply

https://www.rigdsupply.com/products/rigd-ultraswing-4runner-spare-tire-hitch-mount

New wheels, (w or w/o offset to give a wider stance)

offroad lights

bigger investment:
1-2'' lift front/rear, don't go too high unless you are ready to go down a rabbit hole

$$$:
offroad bumpers, w/rear swingouts, spare tire holders etc.

Please resist the urge to add a cheap bull bar, they may add rugged looks but they aren't overly functional, they rust out, and can cause more damage in an accident... but hey do whatever you want it's your truck :)

Can someone point me to a good parts supplier for this year/model? I need some trim pieces, some other bits.

Also, for some reason when I turn off the ignition and remove the key the engine sometimes keeps running! I have to deliberately stall to kill it - any ideas?

Do you have Kenny U-Pull lots anywhere near you? You can setup alerts for when they get stock of wrecked 4runners, then you can go pull parts for cheap (and learn how to do it without worrying about wrecking your own)
