i have been lurking on this board for about a month. got the itch to get a 3rd generation 4runner. after weeks of emails, text messages and phone calls to craigslist adds, i finally narrowed it down to 3 choices:
1. 2000 s/c 167,000 pretty mint
2. 2000 n/a 128,000 few dents/dings
3. 2002 sport edition 139,000 no maintenence records/small fixes needed
well, i went with the 2002 sport. didnt want to spend extra $$$ on super gas for the s/c plus the guy didnt know if it was ever rebuild/serviced. the other 2000 had some body damage and was 8 hours away. the guy with the 2002 never advertised it as a sport edition (dont know if he knew what he had?)and he gave me a good deal. drove it home 4 hours away.
today i changed the oil/filter, drained auto trans (brown colored, smelled a little burnt) greased u-joints, and did the Tundra brake conversion.
the t 4runner runs great! i am really happy. while heat cycling the brakes in, i also put it 4wd and drove it a bit to loosen it up. no problems! tomorrow, i getting it pro detailed. im pricing out timing belt components from toyota right now. i dont see a sticker on the cover indicating if it was ever done. here are the pics the owner posted:
