Bouncy Ride

PGRunner

New member here. Test drove the SR5 4runner today and noticed that it isn't really smooth over bumps in the road. I also tried the Limited version and as expected, the ride was better due to the suspension. Problem is, I don't want to spend another 7k just to get a Limited since I prefer cloth seats. I know its a truck so I wil feel the bumps but it seems like its pretty jarring. What can you guys suggest to smooth out the ride?

Thanks!

There's not a lot you can do. Most on here complain about "sloppy handling".....lean in corners, body roll, wandering on the highway, etc. These can be helped with better tires/ shocks; but the ride will be even firmer.

......Any chance the tires could have been over-inflated? Maybe go testdrive another SR5 to be sure. No doubt the handling sucks though.

Call me crazy or back me up but I think the TE handles the bumps with more grace than than the SR5. I was quite pleased having bought the TE without test driving it first. My only reference was the SR5. I never drove the Limited.

I think the LTE has a slightly stiffer spring, but the addition of XREAS (which I believe exclusively limits roll side to side, and front to back), so the smoother ride I assume is referencing that? Basically that's the ideal combo because the only way to reduce roll in the SR5 is to put a stiffer suspension in it, which while reducing roll and dive will definitely make the ride a bit rougher. You should definitely drive a TE, could be what you want, along with some other sweet features.

I personally like the heavier feel that the SR5 has with the toytec kit on it, but thats not really relevant to you.

Must have been the tires. The SR5 felt pretty smooth to me and I am used to a Lexus GX that drives like a yacht. If you want better handling and you're feeling lucky, maybe there's a Trail w/KDSS available in your area. Mine handles GREAT! I take curves in it like a sports car.

Best bet and probably cheapest would be use FJ or Limited springs and Bilstein shocks. You can find FJ suspension parts pretty regularly over on the FJ forum as alot of them upgrade to lifts. Just join up over there and put an ad in the for sale/wanted section.
