I actually prefer off roading with a stick shift, and you should get a wee bit better gas mileage.
Mine is automatic because it was just too good a deal to pass up and 5 speeds around here are like hens teeth

no, it's just what everyone looks for on this site as most are 4x4 fanaticsI will most likely never use mine but I guess it's a nice option to have. The 4x4 will get you by just fine. I'm in central Phoenix along central Ave and work in the Scottsdale air-park.
I work right there at Az Airtime! if im thinking of the right park, but if i find a nice 4x4 lets go and have some fun somewhere!

Other than Masphx find in Dewey w/locker, you're not gonna find a better deal than the 97 5sp 4x4 additionally that color is really nice. Trust us when we say, that's a good deal even if you don't like it you'll be able to resale it no problem. A very small percentage of T4R have this combo of options. I would RACE over there with deposit or cash in hand.

If you good a driving stick, normal trails aren't bad, I advise you getting a manual as well as they will get 18-20mpg which is 1-2mpg more than the auto. But also because new drivers need to know how to drive stick, it helps make you more aware even when your in an auto.
And have you ever went offroading before? Before you have your parents drop $5k on a 4x4 vehicle make sure it's what you want, I am an SUV guy but as a student I jump at the chance to get my dads jetta tdi, as Pikeman said, you don't want to piss all your money away on fuel, social activities give you a much better return, so I suggest you to really think If you want an SUV, as many kids lose intrest in wheeling after a few weeks... And they are stuck with an expensive drain to their wallet. I can justify my truck, for winter purposes and I use it like a pickup, but I would much rather have a cheap DD...

Seller of the 97 contacted me saying it had sold. 
Pretty sure to the first person who looked at it. My tip... To get a good deal on craigslist you will need to be the first one to see the truck and be ready to buy. To do this first do your research (read read read). Then check out a few that have been FS for a week or two. There must be something wrong with them or seller is asking way too much. Make it a goal to find out what is wrong but most important is to see how everything should be laid out. After seeing a few you will know what to spot and what you are really looking for.
If it is a 'rare' one like that 97 you will have to jump on it quick. I drove up to Dewey mid day Friday to beat others from Phoenix. When I arrived I found out I was the first one to view the truck. Seller got two phone calls during the time I was there checking out the 4R. Everyone asked about the e-locker and when seller said it was there people where willing to buy over the phone without even looking at the 4R. He gave me first shot though as I was the first to look. He even had a guy from Montana who wanted to fly down to check out the 4R. Turned out to be the cleanest 4R I have checked out yet so bought it on the spot.
Oh, watch out for sellers in Phoenix. There are a lot of flippers here. Try to get a 4R from a owner who had owned it for a majority of the trucks life. They will know all about their truck and have records.

I figured that would be sold, any really nice one for a good price will probably be gone that same day.
When I saw mine I was checking the last area in Craigslist for the night, was about 2:30am and I couldn't believe it.
Was by far the best I had seen for the month I was looking and was cheaper than most to boot, he had just put the add up about 3 hours prior to me seeing it.
I immediately send an email with my name and phone number and he called about 7am. 4 1/2 hours later
I said I was interested and when was the earliest I could meet, he said his lunch time at 12 noon.
I was ready to roll within the hour, hit the bank to grab cash and hit the road for the 3 1/2 hour drive.
Nobody saw it before I got there, several had called but were not going to meet with him til later that day.
I saw it, checked it out, drove it, asked what his bottom dollar was he said $7700 I said sold and handed him the cash.
I was checking Craigslist and Autotrader and a couple auctions several times daily for about a month.
Anything really nice for a fair price was gone pretty quickly.

Yeah most kids would want a small DD but my parents WANT me to have a bigger car, they're actually the ones who brought it up, and ofcourse gas will be an issue, but its not like i travel 1000 miles a day. but im keepin my eyes out, and ill keep you guys posted!

Found the listing in the a.m., spoke with the dealer, checked the CarFax and was checking it out (then bought) in the afternoon. It was a trade-in that had only been on the lot for 1-2 days.
Great deals go really fast. So make sure you know what you want, and what you want to pay. So when a 4r you like is listed, you'll be able to jump on it.
