We went on a trip to Box Canyon today (we took the Cunt highway to Box Canyon - not kidding) and had a blast. If you have ever done the trail there is a spot in the middle with a windmil and a larger open area, and 3 trails going up a very large steep hill, which dead ends. It's an optional hill climb, which I remember from a few years back when I did this trip with my dad in our old LX470. Anyway the trail on the far left is the medium trail, the one on the far right is the easy trail, and the one in the middle is the hard trail. It's very, very steep, and has large mounds on each side, then leads to a huge dip before it goes out.
When I did this trip with my dad, all the people in the group we were in said there was no way he could do this in his Lexus.
They were wrong. Some scraping occured, but he made it up.
When I got to this point, I had to do it. It was a personal feat to accomplish and I didn't care at what cost. I got about half way up until the truck dipped into a huge rut in the front. I heard the middle-section of my truck hit the ground with a loud thud and my wheels were a-spinnin. It has been raining all day yesterday and today so the section was very muddy. After spinning my wheels for a few seconds and deciding I wasn't going anywhere, I threw it in reverse and backed up a few feet. I knew I could make it, just lost all my momentum when I hit the first time. This time I put it back in drive and nailed it. I hit the same place I did before but this time with much more velocity, which was just enough to get my spinning tires in the front to grab onto a rock for that little extra traction I needed. This shooted me out of the top (literally, instant traction was like a rocket) and I made it. My friend in his Jeep didn't even want to try.
There are a few pictures of it, you'll know when you see it. The pictures don't do it justice, I thought somebody was taking a video of it but they forgot and I wasn't about to do it again... :dammit:
I did get a few videos of some water crossings however, and of me going up one other good hill climb. This one I did a couple times and took a video the second time, but from what I hear the second time up wasn't nearly as cool looking as the first.
