Brake calipers....RED or BLACK or SILVER??

What is the best color for brake calipers? My 4Runner is black, so do you all think black calipers would look the best? I am getting ready to throw some chrome rims on my baby, and am wanting my calipers to have a "cleaner" look by painting them black, red, or silver. What does everyone think?

true! but it would be a nice contrast against the chrome + black... i'd go black if you wanna keep it demure.

Yey, I am kinda leaning that way. I have tried red, but it just looks a little to flashy and like it belongs on a car. The black will be more subtle and demure like you said. Of course, painting it silver will make it look almost stock (which isnt bad). But, I am thinking the glossy black calipers would look great in the background with the chrome rims. I would stick with red, but there is NO other red on my black 4Runner except the tail lamps. So, red kinda looks "out of place". Decisions...decisions....

I had the same delima a while back and ended up going with the black and they turned out really nice. They look much better than the stock greyish color. Here is a before and after shot.

Wow, that does look nice! Do you have any pics from the side that show the calipers with the wheels on? The black is definately awesome. I bet it would look great with my black beauty

i would go with red, i've already seen a black runner sports edition with red calipers a i was really jealous. black and silver doesn't get the attention red does. you go black or silver know one will notice u did all the work for nothing "unless you know 4runner's inside out' thats my opinion

The only problem with red is that there is no other red on the 4Runner other than the tail lamps. I just think that the red looks "out of place". The more I think about it, the red looks like it should go on a sports car or something. The black is maybe more of a humble, "cleaner" look to it. Plus, after I put on chrome rims, the black may look better. Heck, its a hard decision because you can really see the calipers with the sport rims. I dont know which way I will go

I think black......but that is just me. I think with the chrome rims and the silver of the rotors, the black will give you a nice contrast. Of course the red would really stand out, but then again, do you want to draw that much atttention to stock Toyota calipers? If they were Brembos.......I would deffinately go with red but not on stocks........again, that is just my opinion.

A good tip I got was to clean the calipers with brake cleaner, and to use aluminum foil to cover everything you don't want painted. It works well because you can wrap it around stuff.

i guess its all about taste, me i like to shine and stand out if i get the chance i might even paint them blue but i guess black or silver is a good choice

I actually clean and painted mine while they were on it. I just took my time to get everything covered with aluminum foil and to mask off screw heads and such. Also make sure you cover you truck.

good stuff! So you just used caliper paint? I'm guessing brush on stuff but don't they come in a spray can? If you could do a short write up of the stuff you used and methods.. that would surely help a couple of us on here.

(any pics of your wheel, truck, calipers? just to get an idea of the big picture.)

Actually I put plain masking tape on the screw/bolt heads and used an exacto knife to trim around them. Once the paint was dry, I just pealed it off. Once you take a wheel off and size it up, it is really easy. If you can, do this in a garage where the wind won't swirl the overspray around and get it on your T4R body.......Then post some pics when you get finished.
