My 94 has been doing this weird thing with the brakes since I bought it. At slow speeds (under 10mph) and while gradually braking, the brake like its solidly depressing and then almost depresses further, like its notching down and gives a bit of feedback in the pedal. Its hard to describe, but it almost feels like the ABS is kicking on when it shouldn't. You can hear it go 'dunk dunk' when it does it. Its not real loud, but audible. Never happens at high speeds. I just had the brakes done four days ago and the problem still persists.
The mechanic who did the brakes told me he thought my wheels could be bent?!? My thoughts were why wouldn't I feel that at all speeds? None the less, I went into Tire Rama today to look at wheel prices out of curiosity and one of their mechanics took it for a drive and said that there was no way it was a wheel problem that it was in the brakes. He thought that for some reason the wheel speed sensor was to blame, but said that he didn't think it was important enough to fix.
What are all your thoughts? Would it be worth paying for a diagnostic on it? I would like to solve this, mostly because it is annoying and I don't want this to end up being a more expensive problem in the long run. I'm thinking a 3rd opinion might be needed. Could cleaning the wheel speed sensor help? And second, is it easy to access and clean?
Add: The ABS light does not come on when this happens and the vehicle has 173,xxx if anyone wanted to know.
