Brake dust - this much normal?

After 4 days of ownership, we finally went over 100 miles driven, including our 60 mile drive home from the dealer. Dealer did a great job prepping the 4R before delivery, it was so clean. The day after delivery I noticed quite a bit of brake dust buildup on the wheels, so I cleaned them up. Today, I noticed that much or more, already, again. We aren't driving it hard or braking it hard at all. What gives? Is this normal or because the vehicle and pads are new, or what?

You might be too light on the brakes to let the pads bed in and the pads are wearing away. Really important with racing brake pads and rotors but applies to any new brakes really. I did'nt have and still don't have any brake dust since new but I bedded mine in the first day.Basically on oem brakes just get up 30-40mph and use the brakes pretty hard a 3 or 4 times in a row gradually getting stopping harder but not enought to engage ABS.

I'll echo Harper7, I properly bedded in my pads and have no abnormal amount of brake dust, just a tad, almost undetectable.

Perhaps a photo can help us determine what is too much brake dust.

Not my intent to be snippy but I guess this will come off sounding that way. But, it's not what anyone else thinks is too much dust that matters. If I can tell there is a visible layer of brake dust on the wheels by just walking by and looking, after only 2 days and less than 40 miles of non-highway driving, then it's too much in my opinion. How can you ever keep something looking clean if the wheels are going to be black inside of a week? I've always heard that brake dust is corrosive and is not good to leave on coated rims like these for too long.

I'll try the bed-in procedure and see if that makes a difference.

I've got no problems with brake dust. Had mine for 820 miles and 1 1/2 weeks now.

I've had mine for about 7 months now and i can tell you when i first got it like for 3 weeks it was dusting bad but only up front. I wasn't driving aggressively, i was trying to break the vehicle in properly but it went away by the end of the month then it dusted normally i would say like my other vehicle but yes my initial experience was like what's going on?

I've had mine for about 7 months now and i can tell you when i first got it like for 3 weeks it was dusting bad but only up front. I wasn't driving aggressively, i was trying to break the vehicle in properly but it went away by the end of the month then it dusted normally i would say like my other vehicle but yes my initial experience was like what's going on?

Burt, thanks, that's what I was hoping to hear. It is mostly up front and all my vehicles dust up more in the front than the back and that makes sense. But none dust up as quickly as this seems to.

NO major break dust here at all. I also did as harper, and bedded the brakes. Mines been very dust free ever since.
