2004 Sport 4x4 - wonder if anyone had any tips as to how to more easily clean brake dust off the wheels. Maybe something so I can just spray the dust off with water :)

The best thing to do is to apply a good coat of wax to the wheels. Tht wax makes it hard for the dust to attach and pit your wheels. When you wash the wheels just use soap and water. Depending on how much you want to get envolved with it, you shoud clean the inside of the wheels as well. I rotate my own tires and every time I do, I take them out in the driveway and scrub the inside of the wheels really good, then apply wax to the inside and out.

Hey, Check the net.You can find brake dust shields that go between the inside of tire and brakes. I cant remember where I got mine but they did almost completely eliminate the problem.
Have a good one!

Easiest ways...

on cold rims-- try something like a little Simple Green. That should help to release some of the dust and its non abrasive. then use soap and water with a good brush or mit

on warm rims-- use soap and water.

on clean dry rims-- use wheel wax, it reverses the polarity of the wheel to help repell the dust. regular wax is okay too but you may have to do multiple coats as the heat transfered through the rotors and such to the wheels can break down most carnuba waxes. Try a synthetic.

for upkeep-- try mixing 1part car wash to 5parts water. Its a cheaper and easier way to have Detail Spray and you can clean them inbetween washes with this

I just use a solid wheels cleaner on mine and to reduce brake dust use ceramic pads since dust takes quite a while to build up on mine.
