Brake/gas recall computer reflash - good or bad

I'm taking my 4Runner in for the dash replacement this week. Yay! But they brought up the computer reflash for the gas/brake issue. Initially I declined that since I've had zero issues in nearly 2 years of ownership. Why fix what's not broken.

Now I'm reconsidering though because safety is important especially with a baby on the way. What does everyone think of it?

Congrats on the little one on the way! That being said, on the off chance something does happen though, think of how bad you'll feel and the legal repercussions of you declining a safety recall from the factory. If you don't do it now, you will once you hold your kid for the first time and love something more than anything ever before. Just do it now while you can just up and leave. You'll see how fun leaving the house will be once the little one is here.

[MENTION=135006]4RunninMD[/MENTION] yes due to cracks. Took it in today for the initial inspection and to have the parts ordered. Service guy said it could be months til it's in which was no surprise to me. What was a surprise is he called me about an hour later saying they actually have one in stock there.

Applying the brakes and gas at the same time wouldn't be a big deal in a 4runner. The electrically boosted brakes won't lose power if the engine is at full throttle like a vacuum boosted system would, and the brakes are strong enough to overpower the engine. You can also just put it in neutral if the gas pedal gets stuck for some reason. And if you double-tap the brakes (hard) it will automatically apply full braking force.
