Brake Job Time, Who's Your OEM Guru ? HELP!

Hi all, new fellow here !

Thank you all for this great resource, Really useful info.

It seems like it is time to change my brake pads ( actually, it was time for a while now )

I have 06 4Runner 4wd limited driven by the the princess. I drive an FZJ80

The truck is bone stock, has 80K on the clock and still in a good shape. Never had a brake job so it still has the OE pads, the rotors are still smooth with good meat on them so I'm assuming nothing is needed aside from the pads. I love OE parts and I from what I have read here, many other members share me that opinion.

My question is: Where do you get OE parts from, especially consumables? Is there a good source (price wise ) here on the forum like a parts guru like the one we have on my Landcruiser forum IH8MUD ? My local stealership is rediculously expesive ( I never checked with them regarding brake parts but I knew they were stupid expensive from previous encounters ).

I work on all my vehicles myself so I'll be doing the job.

There are a few sites that members use here, but I like Conicelli Toyota. Looks like it'll run you $60 for front and $50 for rear pads. Don't know if that was quite the deal you were looking for, but I've had good luck with these guys.

Thanks superman3043, well, I know that OE parts are normally a lot of scratch but 110 bucks for pads is still too high, even for toyota. So, any other leads folks ?

They're generally pretty cheap compared to other OEM sites.

Also, in case you didn't already know there are two different sizes of brakes in the 4th gen. The larger brakes were standard on Sport Editions and optional on the Limited's. As far as I know there's no way to tell on a Limited which version you have other than to take the wheel off and measure. Maybe a dealer could tell you with a VIN.

Also, in case you didn't already know there are two different sizes of brakes in the 4th gen. The larger brakes were standard on Sport Editions and optional on the Limited's.

The brake pads for these different sized brakes are the same. I just purchased a set of front TRD pads for the larger diameter rotors and the computer didn't list different sizes. I had the parts guy verify by checking my VIN and the pads were the same part number for both.

This is just a FYI post. I'm not trying to start anything. So if you are just going to replace the pads this could help.

how much did that 4runner cost?
and how long will those pads last?

$110 for OEM brakes is fuggin CHEAP.
i would charge you more than that for aftermarket stuff, just an FYI.

First off Toyota does NOT make their pads....It's made for them by other companies.

I've been using Wagner pads for years. My OEM pads lasted about 90k miles. Wagner pads lasted the same....I'm on my third set now....have 30k miles on this set.

The Wagner pads cost less then HALF the OEM pads.
