brake light burn out

'97 4 runner limited. All of a sudden my driver side brake light has started burning out rather quickly.... any clue why this may be happening?

does the bulb look burnt out? it might not be burning out.....the metal contacts in the socket may be dirty and need cleaning. this happened in my corolla. i changed the bulbs a few times before i realized what was goin on. i just took a file/sandpaper and scrubbed the contacts.

you may be right... that is the first thing I said today to my wife... "this bulb doesn't look burned out".... hum.... have to go dig it out of the garbage, clean the socket on the 4runner, and see if that does it.... it may still work....

Intermittent light.

I have a Camry with a front turn signal light that also fails sometimes not because the light burned out but because of a poor contact. I take it to the dealer and they mess with it and it starts working again.

Ours does the same -- I usually just have to slap it (literally) and it reseats the bulb and all is fine for a while. Has happened on both front turn indicators.
