Brake Line Lengths

Hey yall,

I'm posting to pick your brains about brake line lengths.

I currently have the Toytec 20" rear lines and I'm currently flexing more than they can take. In fact they've sort of been acting as limiting straps (I need to get some it seems)

I'm going to need to go actual custom length and I'm wondering if there are any inherent negatives to longer and longer lines? All it means is a bit more fluid to fill the system out, correct?

You are correct in that yes, and on that note in theory if you start getting crazy you can mess with pedal feel, but if it's for the drums I would very highly doubt it. At best you only get about 20% of your braking power from the rear and I struggle to see how another inch or two would drastically cause the overall feel to be out of whack. Worst case scenario just swap it back

Honestly my pedals are super soft as it is (hopefully the new brake pads and a bleed will help) and my rear seals haven't been able to stay seals for more than a year at a time so I'm not entirely worried about it. I did find out the shoes sorta work when I heard them groaning on a trail, but yeah, more just worried about not losing fluid from tearing a line.

Longer lines will require a little more fluid in the system, but once the lines are full and bled properly the pedal feel will not change.

Longer lines have more of a chance of snagging things or getting rubbed, but no other downsides.

For now, bend the brackets to get a bit more usable length from your current lines. Check/look at this with the rear axle at full droop, which is worst-case (flexing isn't worst case, assuming you have a '96-'00 with the single rear line).

I bent the bracket long ago and unfortunately it's an 02. Two lines. I've been meaning to check length but haven't got to it. I'm currently on the 20" extended lines from Toytec but they're not quite enough
