So I had a rear brake line crack behind the differential. I replaced the line no problem, but when I was bleeding the system I started to see some fluid dripping down onto the control arm, then ground. I looked up and found it was coming from the shock tower. Traced it back to what looks like a brake line that runs to the front of the truck. I have no idea how or why that line broke now, but it looks to be made of rubber and at some point then a hard line. Has anyone else replaced this before? It goes up and over the gas tank then along the inner part of the frame. Does not look like a fun job to do.

It’s not fun. I cut the line underneath the drivers side then used my inline flare tool to make a union. I routed it a little differently because it’s such a PIA. I’ll get you some pics tomorrow since it’s dark now.

I've replaced that line. It's not too bad, there is enough room to pull the line out from the clips that hold it in place. You definitely will need to run the line manually and flare the ends (so no pre-made lines). Do NOT get the cheapest flaring tool because it will make shitty flares that leak. I wasted so much time because of this! Also, if I had to do it again I would recommend going with the copper-nickel lines...so much easier to work with.

Ok so you’ll need a tool like the one above. I have that one so that’s why I posted it. There are cheaper kits but I heard bad reviews from a lot of those. So I bought once and cried once. I bought either a 72” or 60” preflared section of brake line(can’t remember I think it was the 60”, but buy both and return the one you don’t use). After you cut, you put the fitting on and make a flare. Then you will need to bend the line. There are clips where the old line sits. Cut the old line out so then you get a general idea of what needs to be bent and where. Then bend the new line and feed it through the back of the vehicle towards the front. Connect the two with a union and there you go. I personally recommend that you just take it to a shop cuz buying the specialty tool, and the labor to do it, will cost more than just paying someone to do it. Sorry for sideways pics I’m on phone.
